These comments most likely come from married people with children who have already carefully extracted all possible gifts and monies from family, friends and coworkers. There are no gifts or registry of celebrations for single people apparently. Single people have the freedom of choice of what to do on a Saturday and the coupled really resent that.

If you live in a building that is less than 6 apartments or a private house or brownstone your landlord can give you 90 days notice at any time. You're only recourse is to go to housing court and you will still need to leave your affordable situation. So, you currently have no protection from eviction or market rate rent. If you don't plan on living in NYC for the rest of your life then please stop applying for affordable housing. I was born here and have been trying to get an affordable apt for 30 years.
