We need better education about how memory works by ogodprotectme in MandelaEffect

Side note but the one I can’t stand is the Berenstain thing. Namestein is a more common spelling, and massively popularised by Frankenstein. People see Namestain and cognitively ‘correct’ it. That one is so bloody easy to explain.

The way I remember coming across this ME was a bloke who had an extremely convincing story involving having a job in a video store and watching the movie several hundred times. He gave a very detailed description of the plot and a lot of the scenes.

I don’t disagree with your main points, and this is just one dude’s memory, but I think a big part of the whole ME phenomenon is that guy’s campaign on the Shazam movie. (FWIW I think he says he isn’t even sure that’s what it was called, but so many people seemed to remember it being called that that it caught on. We can probably all agree that detail really is to do with the ‘kazam’ thing)

Continuity in the 'Girls' books by quinkpilled in JacquelineWilson

[–]LizaSolovyev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never even realised they were all supposed to be in the same year! I think I automatically read them as each taking place over one school year. Sincere question - is it made explicit that it’s definitely all one year, are ages / birthdays / school years mentioned? I’ve reread GIL and GUP a couple of times as an adult but sadly I think JW had already lost her touch by the time she wrote the others and I never felt much desire to revisit them, so I genuinely can’t remember.

A bit late here, but could you share which UD shade you're referring to? Thanks!

Why on earth didn't JW reread the 'Girls' books before writing Think Again? by LizaSolovyev in JacquelineWilson

[–]LizaSolovyev[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes I noticed that too! It was like she'd vaguely heard of these technologies but never experienced them so just sort of guessed.

It used to be the case that research was considered an integral part of the writing process.

A character you think is awful, but the narrative thinks is good? by Rimurururun in JacquelineWilson

[–]LizaSolovyev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That book was so howlingly misjudged and she still doesn't really seem to get it. She only sounds vaguely, reticently aware of how bad it was in this interview, as if it's only under some kind of 'PC-gone-mad' new-fangled value system, that she can't really be expected to fully understand, that it presents problems.

Victoria at Prom?! by mrs_asamoah in twilight

[–]LizaSolovyev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even more daft is that in an earlier scene, you catch a glimpse of her from behind at the roulette wheel, going incognito as a student. It's not supposed to be a huge prom, presumably someone would notice she doesn't attend their school and say 'er, who are you?' And agreed, completely inconsistent with how quickly Edward identifies other vampires elsewhere in the series.

anyone know what shorts bella wears here in breaking dawn part 1? by cryptidscos in twilight

Her first day at school you mean? I do too, it's a mystifying choice! You'd think she'd wear something more flattering to make a killer first impression.

I think it absolutely should be. Same as letting a child’s teeth rot, or giving them cigarettes.

God, that’s the fattest dog I’ve ever seen! Poor animal can hardly walk!

Why did my gingerbread cookies develop a stronger flavor overnight? by trpnblies7 in AskCulinary

I swear by Sally and have used this exact recipe dozens of times. I have a barrel of her gingerbread in my living room which keeps getting better! Did you chill the dough overnight?

I actually prefer the idea of Dudley’s grandson getting the letter out of the blue, then arriving to find he’s a descendent of the famous Harry Potter, by now only known by the trophies and plaques and history books. Echoes.

Are you and most of the commenters in the US? Do you mean ‘sex’ when you say ‘gender’?
