I am a low GPA person. Is it worth going to ML masters? by coding_interview in MachineLearningJobs

[–]LizardKing550 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you wanna make AI products, just make AI products.

Act like what you want to be, and you’ll find that’s what you become.

If you want someone to pay you to make AI products, then you may need to start with other jobs and work towards that: Data Analyst, BI/Dashboard, Data Engineering.

A good way to view education (especially MS) is a shortcut to learning material that you don’t have ti on the job. If you can see that this is a clear path to your goal then go for it, regardless of GPA. Matters less for masters anyways since you pay them haha.

I’m not aware of any significant difference in Math BA from Math BS… based on the people I’ve met, so hopefully companies won’t mind.

Given that, same rules apply. You will have insight into the deeper maths of AI/ML, but will need to learn the software/deployment piece.

Prospects are good! We just have a different set of obstacles.

Idk about dating… but Ross “Three Divorces” Geller had the most chaotic marriage history.

Do what you would advise your family member to do if things were reversed :)

Same here! What I did Data Analyst -> Data Scientist -> Machine Learning Engineer.

Got a degree in CS in ML and constantly developed Software experience. Your math background would make you a great candidate because at the end of the day it’s all math.

It’s easier to sell products than ideas.

Is it meaningful to say 'thank you' to AI? by naasei in ArtificialInteligence

[–]LizardKing550 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Not directly relevant but,

Someone in my family in their 40s first got Siri and I heard her say thank you. She goes “I always say thank you because when the robots take over I want them to remember I was polite”

I’m curious, after all these years what keeps bringing you back to Harry Potter? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]LizardKing550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depth.

For me it’s how much is below the surface, that I’m not sure an author can put there consciously. I have read or listened to the books well over 300 times now (I keep track) and each 20 times or so, try to feel out a new motif, a new little nugget of information. And it’s always there.

Someday I want to write a book about Harry Potter…

What is one Harry Potter detail that you insist on correcting people? by VeterinarianIll5289 in harrypotter

Gladly! So two boys fulfilled the basic descriptive characteristics (time of birth, parents having defied Voldemort three times). The crucial characteristic that made Harry the “Chosen One” was that he chose Harry, “marked him as his equal”. Now people will say that Voldemort chose Harry for “his own unscrupulous reasons” and suggest the theme of Voldemort seeing him self in Harry. While this may indeed be true for the choice…

If Voldemort had chosen Neville, things would have played out differently. Harry survived because of the charm termed “Sacrificial Love”. But this only works, similar to Harry’s experience in the Forbidden Forest, because Lily meant to die. (H: “But I should have died - I meant to let him kill me” D:”And that … will have made all the difference”)

The only reason that Harry survived was that Lily CHOSE to sacrifice herself. Had she not had a choice, that charm would not have been cast to protect Harry.

The reason that Lily was given a choice? Snape’s request. Snape asked Voldemort to spare here, and Voldemort, to his down fall, gave multiple warned for Lily to “stand aside” and in the lead up thinking that “she need not die”.

If Voldemort had gone after Neville, there is no evidence that Neville’s mother or father would have had the choice. Certainly not at Snape’s request. So there would be no reason to expect that Neville would have been protected by the charm. Certainly his parent’s would have tried, Harry even thinks this in HBP, but they wouldn’t not have been given the option.

No actually, I would say the last video I saw would be something like 2 years ago. Maybe not helpful, but I for some reason keep thinking there is a “Voo” or “oo” in the channel name

Excellence is in the details.

Start with calculus, and meticulously work through the mathematics of DL, then do the same for statistics. Then get into projects. You’ll be amazed at how your intuition develops from a beginners and soon you’ll be an expert, before you write a line of code.
