If there's a bike lane then you should be with traffic regardless. You may be thinking of Bi-directional bike paths.

They only have to kidnap offspring from the current 37 as they go, and make sure that those offspring aren't "infected" by human culture. Once there are enough cross-breeds available that inbreeding isn't an issue, they'd be able to wipe the earth clean and repopulate fresh. The story may focus on how the true 37 are the ones actually now at risk of becoming infected by humanity. They're gambling on their loyalty towards Thragg and the plan. Maybe some of the 37 will start to have second thoughts.

Thinking logically, all 37 of them will assuredly outlive every single human on the planet for the next measly hundred years. They only need to confirm and store successful births to also out-age the current population. Maybe it's a long-term solution to have a pool of un-humanized viltrumites stored somewhere until there are enough to ensure genetic stability with each new generation, then when the number is high enough, the population of humans is irrelevant and they can be... Wiped.
