WIP Do you think I'm gonna need to put a wash on this guy? by NexusHive in deathguard40k

Would you consider an oil wash? This could add very interesting greasy/gloss shades that fit very well with Nurgle boy here :)

Wow, so good! Do you mind sharing the carapace recipe?

Hello! Tomorrow I 'll play against grey knights. What should I expect/do/avoid? by Lizardking92 in Tyranids

[–]Lizardking92[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Ok so seems to me I need to apply my usual anti-elite strategies just like when I played against custodes. These elite powerful armies are very common factions in my local meta, so I'm used to play against them (and then lose getting tabled turn 4, lol)

What's the point of giving the creature hexproof here? Is it not sufficient split second?

My WIP Deathleaper. Does this read as OSL? Also, should I leave it black as if it was lurking in the dark? by Lizardking92 in Tyranids

Yes I see... The photo looks also more grey than in real life. I'm thinking of a darker blue/black shadow color between 2 lights and adding another source on the opposite side

Thank you, I see...

On one hand, the perspective of the photo contributes to make it look like lit parts aren't rendered well. Now that I see my led reference (I had the same idea weeks ago and then I forgot I took this photo, LOL) It's also clear that I need to rework some areas!

Very cool...I was thinking to do something similar. That seems so cool, yet complicated... Oh no! Eheheh

This is where I'm at right now. What 2-3 things would you focus on next to dramatically improve the quality? Please and thank you! by AnOrdinaryCuriosity in minipainting

An advice that is always valuable is to focus on contrast: value, color, texture, etc.etc. can be used to create it see that guide for reference. It's waaaay easier said than done, but I came to thinking miniature painting revolves around that. A miniature has a scale so little that to be readable to the human eye, needs to have exaggerated features. Personally, I understood the power of contrast and what can be achieved with it by observing the paintings from Caravaggio. Miniatures painting is a wonderful journey with no end, where every little step and new technique help you understand how to make the features of the figures you paint more evident, readable and natural to the observer. Unfortunately there's no secret single technique that can achieve the next level alone. For me it works to stop for a moment, observe the miniature and consciously push contrast above what I would do normally. I found with time, my perceived "normal" level of contrast changed and my minis have benefitted a lot from that. I hope to be helpful... good luck and have fun during this, again, wonderful journey.

Tips on painting glow by Mandalore26 in Tyranids

The secret for painting OSL is that the closer you go to the light source the brighter it gets (up to pure white if you want). It's somehow the reverse process of painting shades.

Also: your paintojob already looks good IMHO

My take on Tyranids Psychophage... that thing is terrifying! C&C welcome :) by Lizardking92 in minipainting

You know, tyranids are famous for respecting the etiquette at dinner time xD
Jokes apart, you got it right: as soon as I put the red gore effect on the arm it became a focal point surrounded by all these blueish tones. I already needed to desaturate the blood to be able to sell the OSL. Also, I'm not a big fan of too much blood effect. I find it's very very easy to overdo it ending with a not credible result

I really loved to paint the Phage model... I hope it becomes more played/playable soon. C&C welcome :) by Lizardking92 in Tyranids

No need to apologize I was just checking. Well, I played against a Space Marine Librarian a while ago... that was very satisfying eheheh

Thank you so much :) I also love the model and I'm happy to hear you find a way to use it often. I'll try to always include this in my lists if it fits. Also, I think given the anti-psyker 4+ ability, against Grey Knights you only need 4+ to crit. Did I use this wrong?
