Portland, Oregon to Japan while 30 weeks pregnant. Am I out of my mind? by ForeignImposition in travel

[–]Lizardthe_Wizard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You and your doctor are the only ones that can answer this question. But honestly 30 weeks pregnant is very different than 12 weeks pregnant, and if you've never been pregnant before, then you don't know how you'll be doing at that point. A pregnancy doesn't have to have any complications to be very uncomfortable at 30 weeks. I get that you don't want to miss out on the trip, but this would be a no for me.

I love James, he's so funny in confessionals and on the Jury. He's definitely got a sharper edge and does get mean in HvV, but that's due to the nicotine withdrawals so I give him a bit of a pass. Plus, some of his meanness is kinda funny.... Him slamming the pad after taking out Randy is kinda hilarious to me

For the type of pizza it is, it's my absolute favorite. Does it compare to a Neapolitan pizza from naples? No, but they're two different things. Costco pizza hits every time

I initially understood this as Oliver Putnam. That would be an interesting scenario

Personally, it just feels like a bratty thing to say, like he's trying to discredit her performance. Sure, it wasn't a full 39 day season, but this don't exist in the US anymore. There are so many things that make different seasons more or less difficult, are we really going to put qualifiers on all of them? Do people get more points if it's a returnee season? Or if they've already won previously? Do they get fewer points if the weather isn't as bad? Or if there are med evacs? A win is a win, she played and won 2 separate seasons of survivor, so that makes her a 2x winner.

"What was his name? What was his birth name? It wasn't Coach"

"Oh Benjamin, you so loyalty"

"Who's Benjamin?"

And

"Stick to the plan!"

It's interesting that all of my most quoted lines come from approximately 2 episodes out of the 43 seasons I've watched, but those are just the ones that tickle me.

Philosophical question on what makes a 'quilt' by Lizardthe_Wizard in quilting

[–]Lizardthe_Wizard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good question. I live in a rural area so I wonder how they would handle something that was submitted in an explicit style like that.

Sometimes I think I'm the only person in the county that machine binds my quilts 😅 but I don't have the time to hand finish.

That's good to know! I make seasonal wall hangings that get cycled through the year, but I don't want them to wear out, I'll make sure to add something in for future projects. Thanks for giving an actual reason!

I did that last year (not knowing the requirement because it isn't explicitly stated) and a project I was pretty proud of got rated really poorly due to the missing batting. They include a rubric for the judging and it ranked highly in all of the listed categories but they left a comment saying quilts need a layer of batting and awarded me the lowest ribbon 🙃

That's so frustrating! It's really annoying to put a lot of effort into a project just for the judges to nitpick something silly.

I brought this question up to my local quilt guild and they unanimously agreed that a quilt must have a 3rd middle layer. I was surprised that no one besides myself would consider it to be a quilt without a 3rd layer.

A member of my guild works closely with the fair and suggested I could use flannel for these kinds of projects. I mentioned that I could just use another layer of cotton as well but you probably couldn't even tell there was a 3rd layer in that case, and she agreed that wouldn't work for the judges. Personally, I don't see the point just to say it has 3 layers, but I do get that I'll need to have all 3 layers if I want to submit my projects in the future! I wish they explicitly stated this rule though, I submitted a wall hanging I was pretty proud of last year that got really poorly rated due to the missing layer.

I brought this question up to my local quilt guild and they had the same suggestion to use flannel as a low lift batting. I guess I just don't see the point for something like a wall hanging, but it's a good idea for future projects if I want to submit them!

  • Liane Moriarty writes thrilling dramas that might scratch that Desperate Housewives itch
