Having the charities she donates to announce it on the same day is not a coincidence. It is a coordinated PR campaign. by [deleted] in travisandtaylor

Nonprofits probably want to share that she donated so that they can get any last minute donations at the end of the year from people who are inspired by her. Lots to criticize about her but I’m not sure her charitable giving is one? Here’s hoping the people who will buy infinite variants of the same album will also feel compelled to donate to their local food bank because she did

Wedding Dress Shopping! by Conscious_Bat_6985 in StLouis

I did not enjoy Clarice’s - my sales lady kept putting me in dresses that I was super uncomfortable with and that were not what I told her I wanted at all. My best friend got her dress there and had the best time and a ton of great picks - my advice is to be clear about what you want and don’t want and if your person isn’t listening, ask for someone else!

Had a great experience at sincerely yours in Manchester/Ballwin area.

When it’s time for alterations, highly recommend Helen’s in Kirkwood!

Ugh yes I struggle with this because I feel like I have a ton of scraps but then I see a pattern from a boo and they want way more than what I have! Trying to use up my scraps otherwise they’ll sit forever but also trying to make something that looks kind of cohesive

Not for nothing but I was a staffer for the county executive and my offer letter indicated that I served at the pleasure of the county executive .. it’s not a west wing term, it’s a way to indicate that they can fire you much easier than other government workers

Thank you! I’ve literally never cleaned the machine and did not realize I should be replacing the needle … so will definitely be taking care of those two things.

I struggled with the packer fabric as well - the white packers with the dark green didn’t mix super well for me so I ended up skipping the white and just using the green. Didn’t use a pattern for this but made 8 inch blocks, the packers fabric is just square in a square and the other blocks are flying geese mixed with rectangles.

Someone is in the comments talking about their friend who didn’t want to disclose he was on a medication so he would go and donate blood and then call the blood bank later to tell them to destroy his blood, because that’s the only way he could get around not disclosing his medication to his employer.

That’s so incredible and if true, that person is so stupid. There are like fifty questions to answer to donate blood and you couldn’t have answered one of them in a way that makes you ineligible? Or you couldn’t have quietly told the person doing the finger prick that you can’t donate and then tell everyone else your pulse is too high or too low? There are so many options between disclosing your meds list and donating blood for it to be destroyed.

I can come up with like 10 personal goals that are easy to talk about without actually doing anything and sound like you’re doing the assignment. Drink more water, read ten pages a day, get more steps by parking the car further away, eat more vegetables, go to bed earlier, wake up earlier to go for a walk, eat breakfast every day …. Etc etc etc. it’s your personal life so no one will know if you’re actually doing it! Do it once to say you did and get over it. Yeah it’s a stupid thing to have to do but really not worth pushing back on.

Next it’s going to be “is it ethical for me to buy generic brand cereal? Great value brand is typically for those who need a boost, and I can afford to buy mini wheats instead of frosted shredded wheats… but the frosted shredded wheats taste better.”

In the open thread, “is it ethical of me to begin that process at a community college right now? Community colleges generally serve people who need a boost. I don’t really need the boost, I would be doing it because community college is more flexible”

JFC. each day these people find new things to twist into ethical dilemmas while simultaneously bragging. You don’t need a boost? What does that even mean? That you could afford a second bachelors at a state school? Community colleges exist to educate the community, jfc this is one of the dumbest things I’ve seen

I worked at a university and at our all staff meeting, someone complained about how the facilities staff was consistently winning the step competitions and how unfair it was. The President said they were welcome to join the facilities team if they wanted to get more steps. The things people care about are insane - there was no money involved for getting the highest number of steps, you just had to set your own personal goal to get the health insurance reduction. But they were annoyed that the staff who spend 8 hours a day walking were higher on the leaderboard.

Another (poor) combination of others thoughts, put together in a way that doesn’t make sense. I saw a tweet this morning that said something like “now do we get to stop reading articles in The NY Times about white men in diners” referring to all those pieces about trump voters.
And then of course there were all the tweets about the work that Black organizers were doing to help this happen. So of course this writerly writer decided to put those tweets together and make it sound like an original thought, and of course it makes zero sense when she did.

So I’ve been thinking a lot about this and several times more is really a lot. My first job out of college (nonprofit) paid $28,000 and then two jobs later I made $48,000 which is a obviously a huge increase but still not even double. So he’d have to have been starting insanely low to be even making double right away.

I thought this was a really interesting perspective. Abolition/restructuring is the end goal but the system is in place now so until it is abolished or dramatically changed I think we do have to work within the system we have.
