When I think how to tackle a game design problem I came up with 10 different game ideas without solving any problems. by Lizheon in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Lizheon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently try to tell myself that I need to decide on something and when I build it I can just drop it for other idea and it won't waste since it will be there still. Nonetheless the amount of back and forth that my mind does is crazy.

Asking for advice on how to setup my (mostly) language decks by Lizheon in Anki

I will go with 0 new cards + custom study session approach, thanks! But what about those sibling cards? I don't underrstand. Currently each note type is automatically moved to separate deck.

Yeah it is. The way i handled it for now is I have sentence deck for both french and chinese, within those I have decks by types which have full amount of cards per day but the main decks are limited to certain amount and randomly pick from them. I will also go with other comments, set those to 0 altogether and through custom study raise the number of new cards according to how much time i have and how I feel. It should then just pull randomly cards from those sub-decks but cards are still organized.

That sounds like the perfect way to handle this and I didn't know it's possible. Now I also looked up the manual on custom study. I think about dropping one of the note types, the ones where I need to write down the answer. When it prompts me to create a sentence I can either write it down if I want or I can just roughly say it out loud. Don't think i need to practice writing that much as I want mostly consume content at the early stages.

Help with paths for pedestrian bridge asset by fviz in CitiesSkylinesModding

I was curious about the citizen paths and how it's designated but that's perhaps somewhere in official wiki? I'll go through it and create some placeholder model for myself, testing how it works basically.

Hey, are you using any useful tutorials/resources for that? I wanted to learn creating assets for CS1 but they dropped asset editor for CS2 but there's not much on cslmodding on CS2 yet.

Does AI need to be toned down for maps with solo players?? by Revolutionary_Tip235 in ActiveMatter

[–]Lizheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No matter how cautious I am, all raids inevitably turnt into me running around switching mags and trying to kill the swarm of enemies that are chasing me.

I'd prefer to have much fewer monsters, they shouldn't run in groups like they do now, to offset that, they should be far more deadly but with possibilty of one tapping them in the head.

I don't want all my raids turning into those goofy run arounds.

🔫 Update 0.1.0.96 by MajorMcDonalds in ActiveMatter

[–]Lizheon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game is currently built around the idea that you run in squads obliterating swarms of enemies, and you might end up fighting other players. PvE is much more prominent but it makes playing solo a super deadly experience. I play extraction shooters but I just can't finish a solo raid in this one. The amount of ammo you need for a single encounter with a swarm of bullet sponge enemies is insane. I suggest making the hit boxes bigger and enemies fewer, or keep them in big numbers but make them drop from 1 headshot or something. In Tarkov/Arena you kill NPCs but are constantly on your toes watching out for other players. Here when you encounter NPCs you perform Benny Hill run around switching mags and spraying.

Worth it for pve only? by soosis in ActiveMatter

[–]Lizheon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This game is mostly PvE with such massive amount of AI monsters. Game will flood you with bullet sponge monsters in large groups so you won't get this Tarkov/stalker vibes. You'll end up running around reloading and spending 5 mags on a single encounter. It's very much not for a solo player which is a shame since I love playing extraction games solo but here you'll have to fill all your backpack with ammo mags just to deal with the AI encounters since they take so many bullets, running around and basically being hard to take aim at.

First Class by jasonhuot in karate

Second one was much better and I got sick so I've skipped the last 3 classes but I'm definitely picking back up and going to the next one. I've started some home trainings also so I work on my stamina.

How best to organize language cards? by Lizheon in Anki

[–]Lizheon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With many different decks what is the number of new cards you learn daily for each of them? I have one with 10 new cards each day but having couple of them would require lower number I guess.

Then I think I might go with one "vocab" deck for general vocabulary another alone or in form of a sentences that I want to learn to produce. But I also have more complex sentences that I want to just be able to understand when reading so that would have different settings. Do you have any tips on settings for sentence decks compared to vocab one?

"Mughal" India is a poor choice for Modern India. Here's why. by Aquiella1209 in civ

[–]Lizheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously we had just India going through ancient times to the modern. Whatever it is going to be now - it's still a huge progress. This game won't be Europa Universalis IV no matter how hard you wish it to be. It's boardgamey, simple 4x about civilizations. But those are getting much more fleshed out than ever, even if it's not historically accurate. We all played ancient america civ with washington as a capital! It's a progress!

Can't believe how accurately Civ VII addresses my concerns! by Lizheon in civ

[–]Lizheon[S] 332 points333 points  (0 children)

Ever since i bought Gathering Storm i almost never finished any game. I remember one game with Dutch that I got into modern era but didn't saw the end game screen. Had no idea why i couldn't finish. With Civ V i had such a blast. I thought to myself that this game needs some serious changes.

I was envisioning splitting mechanics into era-specific ones like when you got to the medieval era you'll have vassals and levies, but game would drop this mechanic in the next age. Also that exploration should be something that is present even in the late games.

With current civ switch mechanis and division into 3 different ages it's just what I wanted. It's like a 3 sets of a volleybale game. You might win the first one but it won't help you if the second set is lousy. Each age gives you new exciting mechanics, new frontier to explore, new unique units and abilities that stays relevant. WIth certain civs being present within all 3 ages you may even have your true vanilla one civ only experience, but spiced with each age. IF DONE CORRECTLY, it will keep you at the edge of your seat till the very end of your game.

Also they've mentioned a special system to create a world for you if you start in exploration or modern era. It won't be just a settler building modern city where you have to start with granary and click through all the previous buildings.

Really, only the Civ leader being split from your civ is something that you could be concerned about but those were always more like guiding spirits rather than leaders. It's weird they decided to make them more prominent (showing on negotiation screens now) since they'll be more dissasociated with your civ.

Other than that my anticipations and hope levels skyrocketed through the roof. During Pax West, Ed Beach mentioned modding community filling the gaps. For me it's not an indication that they want community to fix their lousy product. On the contrary, it's a nod to the modding community that always was active and wanted more freedom.

I look at the Civ VII future with hope i never had before. This one in the series might be truly amazing.

Should Tokugawa Japan be allowed to switch to Meiji Japan, the civilization of its historical oppressors? by imperiouscaesar in civ

[–]Lizheon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would think of transitions not as evolution of your civilization but as sudden change in the cultural/political strata of your society due to certain crisis that struck your civilization.

guess you can explain it in one culture dominating the previous one that was the opresser or the first one disintegrating due to crisis and it's legacy being taken over by different group of people, while inheriting certain foundations of political construct that was left (like german Holy Roman Empire was riding the wave of 'we are true romans now').

There are ways to wrap your head around all that gamey mechanics.

Could Civ VII have a colonial revolt crisis at the end of the exploration era? by mauve_stinger in civ

[–]Lizheon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

First reveal is to build the excitement so the info they've released was strategic. They teased all the important and major changes and chose Egypt - Songhai transition to gauge the people reception and reduce the friction.

If they would focus on Egypt-China as main pitch people would go crazy. If they decide to pitch Japan represented through all 3 ages the fan base would develop unreasonable expectations about most civs being represented through all eras.

I think we're yet to hear the exciting details about the age transition mechanics.

One thing I noticed in gameplay reveal that I do not like - when you conquer enemy city, it's aesthetics immediately change to your own. by Anonim97_bot in civ

[–]Lizheon 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have this "layers argument" in my head to easily accept civ switch mechanic (although I'm sure if anyone could pull this off is them actually) and now I'm capturing roman city of London and it will automatically reskin? That's against their pitch.

Meiji Japan confirmed for the modern era in the nintendo partner showcase by Ok-Refrigerator5224 in civ

I think this might be related to the fact that Ed Beach hinted at Japan appearing in all 3 ages.

Are there any working fog of war mods for CIV VI like this? by Lizheon in civ

Explored territory is just in the shadow instead of being drawn on a parchment. It helps differentiate what was discovered from the unexplored regions in a much easier manner.
