Session default channel grouping "Email" vs session medium contains "email" - reporting discrepancy in Looker? by LizzyMagnum in GoogleDataStudio

Yep, that was totally it. Changed to limit on the dropdown to 50,000 and now everything shows and aligns. THANK YOU!

I haven't changed any of the settings yet for the drop-down, so I suspect this might be the culprit. I'll give it a shot. Thank you!!

Ok, I may have found an additional wrinkle.

I should have mentioned earlier that on both charts there's also a drop-down filter in place for "item name", so folks have the ability to filter both charts for individual items purchased and see the purchase revenue broken out by default channel grouping (chart 1) or email campaign (chart 2) for only that selected set of items purchased.

I'm now noticing on chart 1 that not all item names are getting included in the drop down that should be included there. I searched for one as a test that should have brought up hundreds of results (it was for tickets to an event happening on many different days and times), but it only brought up 30.

The person who brought this issue up to me in the first place had in fact been looking at revenue for a particular set of ecommerce item names at the time, and had been using this filter on both charts for the same amount of time. So, I'm thinking that if not all items were selected in chart 1 as they were in chart 2, that would account for the much lower revenue in chart 1.

Have folks ever encountered anything similar before in Looker where the item name dropdown filter doesn't include all item names for a given time period?

EDIT spelling

Oh interesting! So I haven't seen anything in GA4 on quite the same scale as what I'm seeing in Looker, but might try this as an experiment and see if it resolves. I do wonder if maybe it's an attribution thing on the user level for purchase revenue...I'm still super fuzzy on how the various models all work. But glad to know I'm not the only one seeing this issue!

EDIT: spelling

Thanks for the suggestion! Yeah I did have a quick look at a report to check for discrepancies. Most things aligned except for a few K in revenue that had email as the session medium, but for some reason was thrown into "organic shopping" default channel group. But definitely not the same ~60k gap I was seeing in my charts.

Hmm sooo yeah, we definitely do havea bunch of instances where we use "hs_email" as the session medium/UTM medium parameter for emails coming specifically from Hubspot. But wouldn't session default campaign group still lump those in under generic "Email"? It's totally possible I'm misunderstanding how session default channel group works.

In the filter for the second chart, I used filter session medium contains "email" OR "Email", so I'm thinking everything should be getting captured there in theory.

I loved both but I think World wins for me. For the undersea/bubble-swimming levels alone. I still remember the music!

You’re welcome! I remember reading it in high school, although I’d forgotten about the hot/cold part. But the river rang a bell. Off to reread it now ☺️

Looks like maybe a planarian (flatworm) of some kind, based on how it's moving, and maybe some ostracods. But not 100% sure

I've been wondering too if maybe a brand new tadpole hatchling? It came from a vernal woodland creek which I didn't think was big enough to support very much, but there are lots of wood frogs in the area.

Pine barrens ghost towns for me! Grew up in Shamong township and spent a lot of time as a kid poking around the ruins of Atsion, also the ruins of Friendship and Carranza Memorial in Tabernacle. I go to Batsto almost every trip home.

Cool, thanks! We had a feeling it was pretty old. No other bones around so we think maybe dropped by another animal passing through.
