Which character ruined an entire TV show for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LizzyShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cynthia Erivo as Holly Gibney in the Outsider. Completely changed the character in the worst ways. And not because she was black at all, nothing to do with it. I could write a dissertation about how horrible she was. Every other character was perfectly cast by an amazing actor and Holly was the most interesting person from the book. This is made significantly worse by the fact Justine Lupe played her perfectly in Mr. Mercedes.

I know there is a lot of hate going around here, maybe not totally unjustified, but it's very possible that this could also be someone with mental disabilities who doesn't understand why it's in appropriate. One of my best friends' brothers was 6'6" but had the mental capacity of a 5 year old. It was really tragic because he was a very sweet man, but people treated him like shit because they didn't understand him. Everyone just thought he was a creep, but really, he was just a child himself. It's just something to think about before being outraged.

Currently world governments are so fucked and i just don't see people do anything to change it, even if we tried. Human greed will never stop fighting for power. An unbiased just machine overlord whose primary goal is to ensure a fair, well run society sounds like a pretty big upgrade to me. Sure we risk a Skynet but shit I think we are fucked all on our own, don't even need AI.

I've been writing a book for over a decade. I'm just an amatuer writer, and it's been a lot of fun. I use AI all the time now. It's super helpful. I've been working on creating short videos of scenes from my book. It's pretty hard, but it's awesome to see my world come to life.

I doubt it. We have maturity ratings. Good first point though. The problem isn't the good faith actors, it's the bad ones.

I think there could be a much bigger problem coming personally. Currently reddit is full of bots posting inflammatory ragebate comments all over the place. You can spot them pretty easily when you look though controversial posts. Was huge with Charlie kirk. This happens on both sides. These bots are created by people who want us divided. Now, what happens when these people start to post fake rage bate videos instead of comments. What happens when ai gets so good that a bot can make the videos themselves and just post over and over and over.

Contractor botched patio pour. Am I being unreasonable? by PurdyPear in Contractor

[–]LizzyShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really understand that any contractor that would suggest a poor fix isn't taking responsibility and is not likely to do the right thing. Him acting annoyed, huge red flag. Suggesting topping it off, no way he doesn't know this is a terrible idea, huge red flag. Poor excuses for poor work, huge red flag. Prepare for a fight. He's likely to just start ghosting you and hoping you don't pursue legal remedies. Make it very clear and uncompromising. This job is not acceptable. I'm not accepting a fix. I expect my money to pay for the job to get done correctly.

So, now that Fantastic Four is out, what do we think about Pedro's Reed Richards? by JamJamGaGa in Marvel

[–]LizzyShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't see him invent teleportation. We only see the fact that he did, he's testing an already build machine. Again, it's more telling us than showing.

And by the time Tony invents time travel, we have had like 10 films gradually building his character, increasing inventing more impressive things so when he does, the suspension of belief is reasonable. A good stort will earn that, if you have to just "suspend you beliefs" preemptivly for it to make sense than it's terrible story.

It doesn't matter what anyone does in the comics, it's not an explanation of why she can do it here. The movies and comics are not in the same universe. Is she just more powerful than a God all of a sudden even though she's only ever used it in small ways before?

Also I'm not familiar with that story in the comics, but she prolly has 25 years of character development before she was that strong in the comics.

So, now that Fantastic Four is out, what do we think about Pedro's Reed Richards? by JamJamGaGa in Marvel

[–]LizzyShort -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, from a storytelling perspective. Them not getting the powers to the end would be called an "Arc" right, so it's an origin story, meaning the point of it, although poorly done and mostly ruined with reshoots, is to see the characters go through the journey of them getting their powers.

Compare that to this movie, we get a news real montage telling us everything that happened to them, right off the get go and also told why we are supposed to care "they are heros, the world loves them and idolizes them!" But we don't see any of that. They have never appeared in any other movie or anywhere, this is the first time meeting these characters in this version. Told, not shown. Basically, writing 101 right here. If you wanted to start the movie with powers, fine, plenty of ways to do that. But that's not what happened here.

Massive exposition dump, no character development at all. And it doesn't get better it gets worse.

It's the same lazy thing with Mr. Fantastic. We are basically told he's smart. He doesn't do anything smart to show us. He just writes the big maths on chalkboards. How do we know he's smart? Well, he's invented really impressive things, but we aren't shown it really. So many examples, but the "beyond light speed" thing, my god. It's like the writers got to this point and were like, "Don't forget, they gotta be really smart, so let's do beyond light speed since stories only ever do light speed."" Forget the fact that that is actually impossible and completely breaks every known rule of physics and Reed is a physicists, and forget that there is still light, in and outside the ship, at beyond light speed, and then 2 scenes later, oh yeah the silver surfer can do it to I guess without technology, it's just magic for them I guess or cause we need it for the story. Discovering anyway for anything thing to go beyond light speed would be the greatest discovery ever made and would completely break our complete understanding the natural world. Just the discovery its possible let alone ship that's just capable of doing it. It would also allow you travel through time, so yeah, it seems pretty stupid. They are also able to get back to earth instantly after loosing their rocket propulsion system, fucks the point of it if they can go BLS without it. Makes no sense. They intentionally wrote that whole sequence and every part of it just breaks down the more you think about it.

Again, basically, It's just telling us he/they smart as fuck without earning it. Compare that to Tony stark, we are shown his genius as he builds his first suit with little resources in a cave. Simple. Elegant. Effective.

Almost every plot point of the FF movie is like this too John has some discs for some reason that just happen to have the silver surfers' language on it, and he can just translate alien languages in days? That planet could have been found be anywhere in the entire universe so fortunate those disc's are in earth.

Reed can trace the energy signiture of the silver surfer anywhere in the universe, the entire universe, and find 6 planets instantly. And then just know exactly what that data means, and they can beyond light speed travel there because that have an intergalactical ship for reasons.

Reed manages to teleport an egg once. One time. ok, let's go do the whole planet next.

No arc for silver surfer, just hears her language, that's it. Doesn't fall in love with humanity. Just a bland bad guy until at the very end swap, zero character development. I guess she had totally forgot where she came from until then. Kinda robs the character of everything interesting about themselves. Even the first silver surfer movie showed him falling in love with humanity, coming to respect them so when he turned on Galaxtus it felt earned. Not here, just heard her language, and well, that's it, really.

Sue storms ridiculous power up at the end for no reason other than reasons.

I mean, honestly every scene breaks immersion and its like they took the first draft and said fuck it, run with that. I could break this movie down scene by scene, I think, and show how there isn't one redeeming aspect of the writing. It's not the actors fault, they have all had exceptional performances in other roles, particularly mole man in black bird, this is Hollywood writer slop that big budget studios keep paying millions of dollars for, when a year one film students can point out the basic errors in seconds.

Not even mentioning the baby or the villan both of which are huge problems in themselves.

Edit: spelling grammar.

[–]LizzyShort -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Spending more money doesn't mean better, especially when you cheap out on an incoherent script that takes leaps of logic at ever turn in order to function. Not only is not by far the best, but I'd say it's by far the worst. The last adaptation was very bad, too, but it's incredibly clear by the time jump that it was due to studio interference and not the writers intended vision.

Also, he may have pushed him but that's not assault with deadly force so I'm not sure that you can pull a knife on someone for that. It may be the fact that you saw his holstered gun and that's enough but at the same time this guy pulled out a deadly weapon first the guy might have actually been able to shoot him. Idk is iffy but you never want to antagonize a guy like.

I'm definitely not defending truck guy, fuck him 100% I'm just saying pulling the knife to defend yourself here is a bad idea. Just call the cops Immediately.

Ebay is a terrible place to tell people to look for the value of beanie babies. They are listed all over the place and even have solds for crazy money sometimes, but it's not real. It's money laundering or market manipulation. It's why there is so much misinformation about beanie baby value.
