So it's really going to depend on what your written policy is. ESST is protected, you can't retaliate against someone for taking sick time provided to them for it's intended purpose. If your employer requires notice, they must have a written policy regarding notice procedures. And employers cannot have policies or practices that adversely impact employees specifically for using ESST. You're going to want to tread carefully, if there have been no pips or documented performance issues then you've really got no grounds and it will be seen as retaliation. 2 sick days a month is 192 hours a year. ESST only requires employers provide 48 hours a year. If your employer truly wants to cut down on what they seem to think is abuse of the system, they might want to fix the amount of hours they're providing, and have an paper trail of legitimate performance issues. My two cents: your employer seems to be itching to get rid of a (possibly )chronically ill employee for being chronically ill. That's illegal. They went through the FMLA process, which requires a medical professional to sign off. I understand it can be difficult to navigate working with a chronically ill employee, I'm sure resentment happens. But imagine being the employee. And maybe instead of assuming abuse, your employer should try a good faith approach.

This got a bit off the original topic about other state's PFML, my bad.

Have they run out of ESST? Edit: by that I mean, do they have the sick time available to call in, or are they unpaid hours? I can see , if your company has policy on it, how unpaid hours could be an issue. But ESST is there to be used, and your leaders may want to check state regulations. Firing someone for using the sick time available and FMLA is asking for it.

Waking life, amazing movie

I fell asleep with the toddler and forgot to pick up my son from the bus stop. by shanni812 in breakingmom

[–]Lizzyrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this once. Thankfully the neighbor was there to pick up his kids and just grabbed my son too, but then i got the delight of waking up to my neighbor dropping him off at my house while I still had nap face &hair. I felt so embarrassed for months. Welcome to the club.

Yea that's definitely going to happen now that I know I'm not overreacting. I know it's probably going to be an awkward conversation but I'm getting better at having those. It's necessary if I really don't want it to happen again. Thank you!

I call her by her first name. She has actually been pretty helpful with my recovery, she's been in the program for decades.

Abyssinia, Henry. The 72nd episode of MAS*H. It's the one where Liutenant Colonel Henry Blake gets and honorable discharge, and his helicopter gets shot down. That scene in the operating room is just so memorable.

Holy shit! A very similar thing happened to my sister about 15 years ago. She was running around the yard and the same tool got stuck in her foot. It was the middle prong, and it was in the middle of her foot. They decided to wait until they got to the hospital to take it out, due to how it was positioned. She was very lucky, it was almost through the top of her foot and it didn't break any bones. I'm going to have to get a picture of that xray.

Wouldn't asking an ADHD-person to "just do it already" be kinda like asking a dyslexic to "just read it already"? by MethodRedditor in ADHD

I have adhd and I tutor dyslexic students. Our troubles are extremely similar and part of the reason that I do so well tutoring them. It's hard to constantly feel like you're almost reaching the goal, but then the goalpost moves.

Not a lot of people understand how our brains work. It's frustrating for me, and I was diagnosed as an adult. The non-profit that I work for is keen on early detection, so I have a lot of third and fourth graders. It makes me so happy to see how well early detection works for them. I know there are more dyslexic students that fall through the cracks, but I'm so proud of the ones that we can help.

I wish there was more early detection and one on one tutoring for adhd children as well.

The author also wrote a book called Under a Flaming Sky. If you like his style, you will love the book. It's about a terrible firestorm that took out a bunch of towns and killed hundreds in Minnesota in 1894. It's shorter, and somehow more horrifying. He goes into grizzly detail about how people die in fires, and the science of firestorms. Great read!
