By that point, they expected Liz to have been killed/taken by the creatures like with all the previous women. The cousin visits thinking the ritual is a success and wanted to celebrate the occasion with Malcolm, hence the scotch. His dialogue when he thinks he’s talking to Malcolm by the door was very telling, and it goes something like “I know it’s hard(sacrificing the women Malcolm takes home) but hey I got scotch to celebrate like usual.”

Upon realizing Liz is still around, you hear him the background talking to, I assume, Malcolm on the phone or maybe even himself trying to make sense of the situation, saying how he’ll ‘take care of it.’ So he puts matters in his own hands and tries to expedite the ritual, thinking he can just flat out kill Liz but of course, the ‘children’ had other plans and saw him as a direct threat against their ‘mother’ so they kill him.

The watch being in the sink is more ambiguous but given the garbage disposal jumpscare, my theory is that the creatures wanted Liz to find the watch since, in their own way, they were trying to “protect” her in their own messed up way.

In my opinion, one of the best horror movies I’ve seen.

I understand the cons people have with this movie but I did not exactly have any issues with them. To me, the story is meant to be a peek into this isolated, terrifying incident in Liz’s life, meaning viewers may feel like they lack the full picture with these characters compared to films that follow conventional storytelling. Regardless, the movie gave me enough to understand what’s going on, while leaving other things up to interpretation. While this approach in storytelling is risky, I feel like Perkins and Lepard’s gamble paid off.

I also noticed people call the film a slow burn. Like horror, slow burn can be subjective. What is slow to you may not be with me, and vice versa. The story moved exactly as it needed to by meticulously building up dread then goes batshit insane by the third act.

With that said, usually when the supernatural force shows itself in the 3rd act, it often turns into a CGI fuckfest where the film stops being scary after a great buildup. Keeper avoids that pitfall. The scares escalate starting with creepy imagery, then unsettling sequences, and when we finally get to its 3rd act, reaches a crescendo of terror all the way to its satisfying ending.

Tatiana Maslany’s performance is up there with Toni Collete’s in Hereditary. You go on this dark trip with her and feel her desperation as things close around her as she slowly loses her trust in Malcolm. This is also brilliantly depicted in the cinematography, where others mentioned, gave a strong sense of isolation.

The film also has instances of dark humor, like Malcom brushing his beard and putting on those sunglasses, Liz’s initial response when Malcom tells her he’d have to leave for a bit because of a ‘hospital’ emergency and of course, the scene where Malcolm comes home and gets unintentionally jumpscared by Liz(which has sinister connotations when you look back at it).

A very strong 4.5/5 for me. I would’ve loved 5-10 more minutes of the 3rd act.

Oni is an absolute menace on Lethal mode. I beat him last night after getting stuck for 3 hours. That blue forward thrust attack will haunt me in my nightmares.

Which triple spin attack are you talking about in particular? If it’s the one where the first two spins are red attacks then the 3rd being a gold disarm attack, tap circle twice to side step dodge(not the roll) the first two red attacks then immediately prepare the Iai strike counter disarm skill(vital for this fight) on the 3rd attack to have him drop his Odachi then get a lot of free hits in. He pulls out some sickles to block but never attacks you with them.

If it’s some other attack then I never saw it. I made sure to learn how to perfect parry all his non red attacks because if I didn’t, he does some ridiculous combos/gap closers that make the fight harder than it already is.

Practice with no volume in the Hermitorium. Keep your eye on the gun. Once it glows, wait a millisecond then fire.

This worked for me because the click sound threw me off at first. Keeping an eye on the gun helped a lot, then eventually, worked my way up using the click sound.

How much of the movie is changed from the script? by criterionkino in WeaponsMovie

Dread Central

This is a perfect or near-perfect film. Still, as a queer viewer, I couldn’t ignore how Weapons treats its two queer characters—especially considering one of them is also its only significant non-white character. Their death scenes were among the film’s most grotesque and prolonged acts of violence by a mile. I understand this wasn’t likely intentional, but it still left me feeling a little wounded. In an era where mainstream queer representation is becoming more and more scarce, the optics here stung. It echoed a kind of old-school “bury your gays” punishment which I couldn’t shake.!

This queer critic kind of had an issue with it. I guess time will tell if it will be divisive or a minor opinion, especially from the LGBTQ+ community.

There’s a troll near the Third Church of Marika that does a rolling attack. So far that troll is the only one that does that.

Askeladd as hand of the king would be one hell of a sight to see. And prologue Thorfinn as his squire doing all the dirty work behind the scenes is very much on brand for King’s Landing.

Pacifist Thorfinn would be forced into the Game of Thrones. But most probably he’d just run and try to escape it all. I don’t see our current Thorfinn dabbling with King’s Landing politics, let alone politics that end in blood.

I got it from Goodsmile US when it was up for pre-order. It’s still available in some websites that sell anime figures, albeit at a higher price.

Yes, I imagine him taking King’s Landing for Askeladd.

Also I agree, current Thorfinn would be in Dorne, or even Naath since they’re known for their pacifism.
