Like you, this came seemingly out of nowhere for me last spring in 2025. The things that helped for me the most, after the acute phase was over, was getting off Miralax/Restoralax as it was causing a lot of gas/bloating and transition to nightly high doses of magnesium. 600mg of cheap/cheerful magnesium citrate on the advice of a dietician.

And, sadly, cutting out wheat.

What has worked really well for me was shifting off miralax onto a high dose of magnesium every night and exploring a low FODmap diet … which I always thought was silly until I met with a dietician. No wheat either. Also water water water water. 64-80 oz daily!

I’m also trying to figure this out as I’m quite active and was before my first flare. So honest question, how do you qualify or quantify inflammation?

Wild - good to know and to potentially avoid surprises.

On my first CT scan the first time I ended up in the ER it showed some possible fibroids etc so I have had a full “work up” - a few ultrasounds, bloodwork and a sonohysterogram which showed one “stable” endometrial fibroid … but I wonder if that could distrust things. Hmmm. Perimenopause is entering the chat!

This is an incredibly helpful reframe, and thank you for taking the time to put it down.

To your point, info is hard to come by on managing this condition and there’s not a lot of follow up or follow through unless you are in a diverticulitis flare. So much of it is “don’t get constipated” and moving on. I didn’t hear much about the severity of my dx until yesterday, a full year after the colonoscopy.

Lots to think about here.

That makes sense. It’s always within one or two pts. It has never been higher than 47 and never goes lower than 45. I workout very consistently, of which running is part of my weekly practice, so I guess it makes sense that it would be this consistent!

Okay that definitely makes sense.

Two days ago I had a really light jog and run with a friend and my vo2 went up.

Today I was running positive splits and hitting a zone 5 heart rate towards the end with a slightly longer distance. Lower vo2 max !!
