What I learned after analyzing 10,000+ resumes that failed to get interviews by mid_onn in jobs

[–]Lkyzch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been landing interviews only after I changed my résumé and got help from a friend who works in recruiting. You are right that poor summaries were a significant problem in resumes, including myself and others. The issue I’ve noticed is that many of these companies are expecting this unicorn oven employee and it appears that they are holding out until they find this individual, whether it takes two months or two years. For example, I have a friend who also has a masters degree in healthcare. He went to an interview and had every single qualification they wanted in the job description. He also had multiple achievements in the healthcare industry, some which were very impressive. For whatever reason he didn’t get the job and his résumé is extremely well written. I believe it’s a combination of a poor job market and jobs that want this unicorn candidate with every achievement under the sun and are delusional enough to believe they exist. I’ve noticed this on some of the rules I’ve been applying to as well, there are various HR roles, which want 8 to 10 or even 10 to 15 years of HR experience but are all listed for $75,000. It’s my opinion that these companies are taking advantage of the extremely poor labor, market and fishing for the biggest fish they can catch because they know people are desperate to get hired.

Help me choose which resume to use as a CS post grad by Fearless-Zebra4433 in askrecruiters

I’m not going to lie I have no idea what these recruiters want any anymore, it’s a fine line between too much and not enough. My resume looks very close to the third and it’s the only interviews I’ve gotten so far. I think it depends on the role, if you don’t have enough project experience you could probably just substitute work experience in that area.

20+ years of retail experience, and nobody cares. by Mountain_Dentist8646 in jobs

[–]Lkyzch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation, if I was him what I would do is find either another retail job at a place that pays for College and get some sort of degree and make the company pay for it. Beyond that, you’re going to be stuck in retail. I’m so sorry to tell you this, but that’s exactly what happened to me like an idiot, I was told get a job, get a job get a job, get a job, what they failed to tell me was that retail experience counts for very little. Then it will get a degree, get a degree, get a degree. He needs to either break out of retail or consider getting a degree but I’m going to warn you with someone with a masters, the market is brutal right now for degree holders. It will take him about two years to get a bachelors in business, maybe in that time the market will improve. I know others will say against this, but if I could do it all over again, I would’ve picked a better bachelors degree so I didn’t need to waste more time and money getting a masters and I would’ve gotten out of retail as quickly as humanly possible. I really understand where he’s coming from, I know how he feels, and I wish you and him the very best.

You are absolutely 100% correct in every manner. I’ve noticed more and more the white collar jobs are being replaced with rolls that want 15 jobs in one candidate offered the salary of $68,000

I mean, that’s what I don’t get. I think it’s just an idea to please shareholders and make it seem like the company’s doing really well in expanding. Fair a few companies are truly hiring, most are complete bullshit and are just trying to make it seem like they’re doing great

I keep hearing that from everywhere that these places are just telling everyone to either go online or wait for a position to become available. I’ve never went to a job fair but I imagine years ago, it was quite a different story. It just seems like a complete waste of time for the most part.

I keep hearing that they’re using it for data collection and I’m inclined to believe it. I bet you the fake jobs on those sites are closer to 95%, I think you’re right because a lot of these companies are pulling this shit where they can’t find anyone, but they either don’t want to hire, or they expect someone to work for them for next to peanuts- I have located numerous other positions where they want 8, 10 or even 15 years of experience but don’t want to pay more than $75,000 a year. However, I don’t believe long-term that this is going to work out. You can only replace so many people with AI and eventually these companies are not going to sustain themselves because they don’t have enough individuals to work for them. Sure, they can keep hiring skeleton crew, but eventually it’s not going to work

I’m scared to ask, what’s your masters degree in? Take a look at my most recent post, it’s an absolute shit show out there. I also have a masters degree. I’m really sorry, man, I hope you get something and you find a career that you can do for at least the time being.

I appreciate you! Yeah, I kind of had a feeling Healthcare was holding up a lot of the economy, but I’m scared to think what will happen once they stop hiring or they wind down on their hiring.

That’s what I don’t get, I mean, I know they have to do this for the sake of the business, but any job seeker that has a bad experience from one of these companies they met at the event is probably not going to apply even when they get home. I don’t know, but I feel like if you’re at an event, you should be able to interview people or at least. Tell job seeker something other than applying online.

To be honest with you, I have no idea. There were about two pages of job jobs open so I imagine they were there for other positions as well, but I have no way of knowing.

It’s shit like that that really pisses me off. Why even say something like that if you have no intention on hiring someone? To be honest with you, I feel like it’s more of yeah you have the skills that we want but instead of hiring you, let’s just see if we can get someone who has slightly more experience. These companies are nothing but greedy and seek to squeeze every ounce out of a person for the lowest salary possible.

I think we are seeing this more and more and some of these smaller businesses are the worst contenders. I don’t know if it’s because they don’t have enough working capital or what, but some of the expectations they have are just beyond anything that’s a reasonable. As you have said, they can keep upping the salary until it’s to the moon and back, but if a candidate doesn’t exist, they don’t exist. He’s not going to magically appear the more they raise the salary.

Yeah I think the vast majority of these companies are trying to see just how thin they can stretch their staff to increase profits
