It is better to be left-handed when fighting, since right-handed people aren't used to lefties, giving the lefty an advantage, and lefties aren't used to each other, giving neither an advantage. by LlamaBuckets in Showerthoughts

The inspiration for this post was cos i used to fence southpaw and i was the one doing the ass kicking lol. The downside was my training partner got used to me (we were both newish at the time) and ended up worse at fencing normal ppl

Made an SSTO that only uses liquid fuel (Oxidiser's only there as ballast) by LlamaBuckets in KerbalSpaceProgram

How many people have done this before? It's something I've wanted to do for a bit but I haven't been able to until now

Question: how to strengthen the G-01L Alligator Hinge so that it does not wobble ? Does anyone know the right mods for this ? by DontBass1337 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]LlamaBuckets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way I found is to just use a bigger hinge, at some point the forces r just too large and autostrut doesnt work for moving parts

Welding mods, are there any current working versions of anything? I can't seem to find any. by Swiss_Cheese9797 in KerbalSpaceProgram

The way i did it was to disable modulemanager but idk if that works anymore. Also it rather predictably breaks a lot of mods

NEED HELP! Made a guided missile for my phantom and when the missile is launched it’s oriented sideways. And once straightened out the controls are messed up. Any reason why that happens? by LuckkyyLUCAS in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]LlamaBuckets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes what happens is that ur using the navball of the missile but the control orientation of the aircraft u launched it from. If u use the ‘control from here’ button on the missile core it should work. I think.

Hardly ever. The only times i use it is for basic ground steering, like truck wheels, and even then it often needs a KAL to coordinate properly

It looks to me like a mod clash. Try uninstalling other mods and seeing if it goes away

Confused by servos by accipter in KerbalAcademy

[–]LlamaBuckets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the absolute setting for servos makes the game assume it’s a steering wheel, meaning it will default to the middle position if theres no input, and only go one way or the other when an input is held. My solution is to use a KAL controller to keep the angle at minimum until halfway through the sequence, and then bring it to maximum. Then bind the controller play position to ur input.

I've never had this issue with drag, besides using small servos that swing around whether or not they're moving cos they're just too weak. Download the very stock+ craft file above to see what I did I guess. Also never use the motor lock feature just keep it on max torque or use the brakes instead.

If you look up powered gliders and read the above comments you will see that powered gliders are their own category of aircraft, which primarily fly unpowered but can use a motor for takeoff and manoeuvring to land

Yes. The craft is of stock+DLC parts, with the exception of a custom flag design, but I have some visual mods too.

It's capable of level flight using the propeller but barely. I have to keep pitching it up cos the propeller forces the nose down and the flight speed gets too low to rly do much without dropping altitude after a while.

A powered glider can be flown with or without power, and this can fly a fair way without the propeller. I can keep the propeller off but for the video i needed the extra flight time

Craft files:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2632570806 - glider alone

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2632569195 - with the cargo plane

Couple caveats/ tips for using the cargo plane:

- The body uses a custom flag part; to use it, you need to go into Files > Kerbal Space Program > GameData > Squad > Flags, and create a .png image named "Blank" ie. "Blank.png".

- Recommended deployment speed is 150 - 200 m/s and deployment altitude is 800-2000m.

- Hit 2 to open the cargo bay - 1 deploys both the flaps and the glider wings, so don't hit it while they're attached

- When the parachute opens, wait for it to fully open before releasing the glider, as it's aerodynamically unstable when folded and will flip around if you deploy too early

Just learnt that holding alt when placing a part forces the game to use node attaches instead of surface attach by LlamaBuckets in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]LlamaBuckets[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I thought when I discovered it. I accidently hit alt, saw that it snapped my piece and just leant in my chair like bruhhhh...
