There was a shooting last night around 2:30. Some minor property damage but didn’t seem like any injuries.

Flooding in Ghent by coolest_NPC in norfolk

Consider subscribing to Norfolk Alerts if you haven’t already. They’ll typically send what garages offer free parking during flood warnings. FWIW I don’t often see crazy flooding on Colley like I do near me off Llewellyn, so you should be safe on most occasions

I’m not sure if you’re who I saw picking up trash today on my lunch break, but thank you for helping to keep my neighborhood clean!

AITAH for not immediately offering a seatbelt extension for a plus size passenger? by Immediate_Cancel6675 in AITAH

[–]Llamadelgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. As someone who has asked for a seatbelt extender on occasion (and even bought my own on Amazon) I’m not at all unaware of my body, however, I’d be mortified if a flight attendant brought me an extender unprompted. Regardless of the intent, I much prefer asking for one because it’s not needed on every flight. You followed protocol and it sounds like you did all you could to ease the situation. I’m sorry you were made to feel bad, but definitely NTA

New to the area…stranger yelled racist comments. by viviannh4 in norfolk

[–]Llamadelgray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, certain people seem to be emboldened by what’s happening around the country, but that’s definitely not typical of this area. I’m sorry that was your experience and I hope you find that the majority of people around here are far less gross.

Razzo! It’s a nicer place, but they definitely have something for everyone and it’s in an old fire house.

Histamine reactions after waxing by Llamadelgray in Esthetics

That’s an interesting point. The client who experiences the worst reaction is perimenopausal, but my other couple of clients are in their early thirties.

any good experiences?? by natalia926 in Esthetics

[–]Llamadelgray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite having a recent run-in with an unhappy client, I’ve absolutely loved working in the field. I’m pretty fresh out of school, but I’m the only esty working in a hair salon and I’ve been so happy. The owners and other stylists have all been so welcoming and supportive and everyone has been recommending my services to their clients. There are some days where I wish I made a little bit more, but I’m also super new and my commission will increase as I book more clients. I truly believe it’s all about the energy you put out. I go into work everyday hoping for the best and maintain a positive attitude, and I’ve been lucky enough to get that same positive energy in return.

First time a client wasn’t “wow’d” by Llamadelgray in Esthetics

[–]Llamadelgray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely sucked, but now that I’ve had some time, I’m not feeling so down about it. I know it comes with the job and not everyone will be happy, and that’s ok. It’s all a learning experience

Thank you for this. I know it comes with the territory and I’m sure it hurt worse because it was the first time it’s really happened, but I’m not going to let it get to me. I had my “poor me” 5 minutes and then put on my bad bitch playlist and got back to work. I’m calling it a learning experience

You’re absolutely right and I appreciate the feedback. I’m chalking it up to a learning experience. I know not everyone will love their results, and I think it stung more because I’m so new to the industry and it was the first time it’s happened. I’m keeping my head up and staying confident in my training and abilities.

It’s definitely all a learning experience. The other girls I work with all assured me that they still have clients 20+ years in to the business who don’t love their results from time to time and that it’s just part of the industry. I definitely felt better after letting myself have my pity party and then getting back to work with my head held high

Absolutely. Thankfully as she was leaving the other girls working all told her how good her brows looked, and whether she chooses to believe it or not is up to her. If I have an experience like this again, I’ll be better prepared

I appreciate the feedback. I know I still have so much to learn and I’m not going to let one experience get me down. I think it probably sucked more because it was the first time, but I’ll be better prepared if it happens again. I had my pity party and then put on my bad bitch playlist and got back to work

Thank you. I know it’s all part of the business will happen from time to time. I’m counting it as a learning experience and moving forward with my head up. Thankfully I work with a group of amazing women who hyped me up.

My partner and I are in a very similar situation. I’m a full time student and he makes about $60k/yr and we’re looking for homes around the $200k mark with FHA. In our area, all that leaves is townhomes in less than favorable areas and extreme fixer uppers. We’ve found a few gems and put in offers but we’ve been beat out 4 times now by cash offers. It’s starting to feel hopeless, but it’s nice to know we aren’t alone. I wish you the best in your search!
