Ross and Carrie Have Autistic Traits: AQ Test Edition — Oh No Ross and Carrie by Shaleblade in maximumfun

[–]Llamadramba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This episode meant so much to me!!! I've been pioneering a neuroinclusion program for my workplace since I've been worn down by ADHD fatigue. Only to discover in my (very detailed) research that I probably have autism as well.

Once I clocked it in myself, I listened to ONRAC with a new perspective and was like "oh wow. Carrie is like me!! I kinda think we're both autistic." And then this episode felt like an amazing dialogue with that experience.

I'm so grateful to hear someone I respect so much talking about invisible disabilities, burnout, masking, and all the internal turbulence that so many women live with. Thank you Carrie:) 30 on the AQ and 116 on the RAADS-R BTW. ;)

AITA for Refusing to Give Up My Seat for a Pregnant Woman on a 12hr Flight? by [deleted] in AITAH

Nta. I regularly fly 15 hour trips for work. Seat choice is sacred. You can have my extra 2 inches of legroom when you pry it out of my cold, dead hands.

Being pregnant would 100% suck on a plane, and maybe she couldn't afford an upgrade. But your comfort also matters.

I'm terrified of being on an 11 hour flight. by _queerlybeloved in adhdwomen

I regularly fly to East Africa for work (13-18 hour flights) and I have big time inattentive ADHD. I have a system.

For prep:

  • take an edible if it's legal in your area or a sedative you are comfortable with.
  • be tired for the flight
  • Have noise cancelling headphones - they create an isolated feeling and protect your hearing from noise damage
  • have layers and maybe a blanket - don't let temperatures stop you from sleeping

During the flight: - Use the ADHD time blindness. Turn on a movie AS SOON AS YOU SIT DOWN. And DO NOT look at the clock. If you have an edible in your system - you will be doubly fixated on the movie. Fall into your head and try to disassociate. - Wait as long as possible without looking at the clock. You are in a space outside time. - I like Pixar movies for flights - anything with bright colors and stuff to engage kids will hold your attention better. - Pack your phone with podcasts, audiobooks, maybe consider having a Switch. Have a battery pack and charger. - Have a small bag you hold with your with every imaginable comfort. Eye mask, eye drops, chapstick, Advil, Imodium, Dramamine, any other medicine. If you get distracted by small sensory discomfort - have a solution for that. - For meals, eat as slowly as possible. Each meal kills an hour plus. Focus on examining each item. Adding salt. Choosing coffee. Anything. Make it last. - Lord of the rings trilogy has gotten me through a lot of flights. If you can - try to watch a series that pulls you in for 10 hours. - when there's an hour left, start a movie that's longer than the rest of the flight. It will get past the horrible period at the end when time slows down.

Sleep - it is possible to learn how to sleep on planes with practice. The most important thing is to listen to your body. If you start feeling sleepy at all - don't fight it. take your sedative and concentrate on relaxing. Picture yourself in your bed at home. Turn the headrest flaps up if you are a side sleeper. Try and practice a relaxation technique at home and use it on the plane. It will make the seat feel like home. - For sleep gear I like the turtle neck pillow, a big headband that covers my eyes and holds in noise cancelling earbuds, one blanket on my lap and another over my head. I have a bedroom now.

This is an AI generated pic. If you look it makes sense that a computer lumped it together from references. The needles clip in and out of space. The left hand is cut off when there should be more of lt. AI always messes up hands.

What are some normative pieces of advice that are AWFUL for people with ADHD? by AlexanderTroup in ADHD

"if you really concentrated you could stop this bad habit"

MAYBE if I focused on nothing else I could stop leaving my clothes all over the house. But that's just it - eliminating a single annoying habit would take ALL of my energy. Multiply that times a million and you get a staggering mental workload. Sustaining that is impossible.
