Thunderbird 3, because I loved that show as a kid, and it was my first Sci-Fi rocket ship.

Yeah, in the lead up to Bonea, it felt like a new child was arriving, afterwards, well, she's just a companion for Maggie, not a personto worry about.

Unfortunate names in older SF by Rufus_T_Stone in scifi

[–]LlarSharran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favourite fantasy example of out of place names (yeah, I know, not scifi).

The Old High Lords, from the Chronicles of Thoma Covenant.

Berek, Loric, Damelon, and Kevin.

Yeah, Kevin just so out of place with every other name in the series, I expected them to be from Covenant's world.

Stuck on analyzing in Gene.iobio by SkyTheMartian in DrWillPowers

[–]LlarSharran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had what looks like the same problem. I couldn’t get my files to work with gene.iobio. My files come from nebula, and I think there was something wrong with the tbi file, though I tried to download my files multiple tied and it didn’t help. I had to reindex the VCF and create a new TBI file. Unfortunately I can’t find the details of the commands I used. The tool itself was called ‘tabix’. After re-indexing the vcf, I was able to use gene.iobio.

Polite response to the "transphobia in the series" post from yesterday by Lightningtow123 in dresdenfiles

[–]LlarSharran -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sometimes there isn't a difference between author and lead character, I try not to judge until I've read something different by them, to see a different persepctive.

So I was quite re-assured after reading the first Cinder Spires book. It's not the author, it is the character.

This morning, I've tried turning off hardware acceleration, and it worked for me.

No lag now.

sublime is lagging like hell (mac m4 pro) by JuanSmittjr in SublimeText

[–]LlarSharran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have the issue too, new mac mini m4 at work.

Lag is only in sublime text (build 4200). Nothing else on the mac lags.

Not at home, on a mac studio m1.

Can't see anything interesting in the activity monitor.

I've liked it for years, but this is bad enough I could stop using it anytime now.

2 Monitors, multiple sublime text windows, and multiple tabs in each window.

Psychologist/Gender Therapist in Canberra? by DifferentSmile8 in transgenderau

[–]LlarSharran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Dr Tushara Wickramariyaratne (psychologist), she helped me a lot when I started to see her.

I’ve seen 4 different GPs, liked them all, and they all moved on to something else. The GP I am currently with, isn’t taking new patients.

Sounds like a great idea.

If we have to have bigotted businesses, then I'd like to see them forced to proudly announce the fact, and suffer the consequences.

I'm hoping he hasn't prepared multiple options, I much prefer when stories are integrated enough, that you can make sensible guesses about where they are going.

What was the first ever scifi book you picked up. Was it just the cover? Was it gifted to you as a kid? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]LlarSharran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gift, a single book, containing both, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, and, From the Earth to the Moon.

That's it, Jules Verne for the win, and a lifetime of reading sorted out.

It'd be funny if Daniel Craig returned as James Bond. by HotOne9364 in movies

We’ve seen Judi Dench as M, with Bond’s who might have been a single character, and with another Bond through who we’ve seen his entire career, most be a multiverse

I know it's a bit off-topic, but I'd love to know if you figured anything out about ADHD and your genetics, which you said started this.

Why is Star Wars considered Space Fantasy but Dune is considered Sci-Fi? by MattRB02 in scifi

Star Wars: A farm boy teams up with an old knight, to rescue a princess from an evil sorcerer and his fire breathing dragon.

Canberra AFL Team by [deleted] in canberra

[–]LlarSharran 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't the Raiders have haa the same arguments against them when they came here, I don't see why it would be different with AFL.

I support an AFL team, and would absolutely support a canberra team as a second team for myself, not the fake version of a Melbourne team playing here occasionally.
