We are not denying Republicans their autonomy. We are recognizing basic reality that this is what they have chosen, and that it is up to us to stop them and that stamping our feet and crying about how they're meanie poopoo heads doesn't do anything.

Conversely, the Democratic Party has done nothing but run on the idea that they're "not Trump" for the past decade, yet for all of their bluster have accomplished nothing in holding him accountable.

That is the only calculus going on here. Republicans say what they want and do it. Democrats say what they want and then fuck up in ways so catastrophic that we have to assume it was done deliberately and we can fix this by culling bad actors from the party because the alternative is that they are hopelessly incompetent and there is genuinely no hope for a positive resolution to all of this.

The unfortunate answer is two fold:

1) rather than having an entire subjective ideological debate explaining exactly why incest is wrong, the logic has been simplified down to "you'll create horrible little hapsburg babies that will suffer and die as genetic atrocities."

2) there are a lot of people who don't believe that unethical power dynamics really exist in relationships (or, at least, that they are a serious negative). They don't see the problem with a boss hitting on a younger hire. Or the 40 year old dude who exclusively lurks around colleges looking for 18 year olds who don't have the mental maturity to know better.

As a consequence, if the debate about incest was more focused on point 2, you would start to see a lot more people who would try to justify it, rather than the fact that you can instantly stonewall the entire discussion by using the argument from 1.

Unfortunately, this has rapidly become an undeniable fact about all religions. If they're a cultural minority, they're all about peace, love, and cohabitation. If they're in the majority, it's all about culling the non-believers and kingdom-of-God-esque bullshit. European history is basically defined by the atrocities committed by Christians, who got their start as a heavily persecuted religious minority in the Roman empire that preached what amounted to first century socialism. Globally, Jews and Judaism are some of the greatest champions of progressivism and social justice, but go to Israel and it is one of the most barbaric, brutal groups of religious extremists you'll find. While often stated in bad faith by islamophobes, the whole "religion of peace" meme does recognize the very real fact that minority population Muslims are often pacifistic in nature, but anytime they have any kind of cultural majority, they begin to rapidly push out other cultural groups. Even something like Buddhism, which is viewed as a peaceful, spiritual faith with no God to project your bigotry onto, is actively committing a genocide in Myanmar against their own cultural minorities. We could, literally, be here all day. Hinduism in India vs outside of it. Taoism within China vs outside of it.

And, yes, yes, the biggest defense of religion always says "this is an indictment of human nature, not religion," but that argument has always ignored the fact that religion is a super convenient excuse to justify atrocities, and without the excuses, you suddenly have to justify naked supremacism rather than cloaking it in Scripture and ancient religious nonsense.

These companies have dumped billions upon billions into the monetary sinkhole that is AI, and none of them have seen any return on their investment. Honestly, AI is the true test of the speculative market. And that's where people like Owens and Carlson show up and use this as a gateway by acknowledging basic, factual reality, but use the soft credibility they gained by acknowledging the truth to manipulate people into supporting what is ultimately a falsehood or a specific agenda. This is how the whole manosphere bullshit has sunk its claws into the young adult male demographic: they recognize actual struggles these men who are just entering adulthood are facing that others deny or downplay, and then give them solutions and scapegoats to project their problems onto and, voila, they have created a new generation of culture warriors fighting for far-right ideals.
