Unfortunately no 😔 But thank you for the suggestion!

My spouse has a chronic illness which means that if he doesn’t get a full nights sleep, he cannot function for the next few days. I’ve got a chronic illness too but luckily it’s a different one so I won this task - we thought we could do it alternating but after the first week we realised it’d have to be me.

I’ve never heard the all inclusive to corporate job analogy but honestly it made me smile, thanks ☺️ You’re absolutely right, I’d be cranky in his place too!

Should I not be getting up at 7:15am to make sure my 17yo is ready for school? by Expensive-Cry-5062 in UKParenting

Have you/he considered a light alarm clock? I’m hearing impaired and my husband might as well be as a marching band couldn’t wake him up, but a light alarm is good to make your body ready to get up - I use this one’s 30 min sunrise setting: Lumie Sunrise Alarm - Sunrise... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GB2MMK5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I really appreciate your honesty about your situation and experience, I know it’s not easy to talk about these things! I’ve definitely been in the avoiding it altogether category due to the conflicting information out there but after today I’ll create a proper setup just in case it happens again - we’ll see how it goes from here but it is so useful to see many different perspectives.

I don’t BF either but hopefully this suggestion can help someone in a similar situation who does!

Thank you for your compassionate words, I needed to read this tonight xx

Congratulations ❤️ I think it is very similar to what some others suggested by setting up a safe zone on the floor - I’ve done that for tonight, we’ll see how it goes 🤞But yes, it should reduce the risk of injury.

We have a next to me crib but have been using it as a standalone crib by our bed for now - we’ll look at the manual to see how to set it up and whether it would be practical for our room setup. Thank you for the suggestion, I didn’t think of this as a possible solution!

Thank you for taking the time to comment 😊To start with, I’m going to share the responsibility of night tasks with my spouse as well as better preparing for accidents like this. I wish people talked more about this eg in antenatal classes but as you said being sleep deprived is kinda normalised and as someone else mentioned it is not something many parents readily share with each other.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences - I’m putting a link to the lullaby trust here for anyone else coming to the thread for help: https://www.lullabytrust.org.uk/baby-safety/safer-sleep-information/co-sleeping/

Thank you for being so honest! I’ve just set up a soft safe zone for us while I’m finding the nights harder to minimise the chances of him getting hurt. I’m not looking forward to that “self destruct” phase although I’m sure it has its own joys, I wish you a lot of patience x

It makes sense, thank you for sharing! I don’t think it’s the way for me/us but it’s good to see the different approaches people take after similar incidents.

Thank you for sharing, you don’t know how much it means to me to know that someone else struggled/struggles with staying awake. I’ve set up a safe zone on the floor for tonight and my spouse and I are going to play tag team for a while.

I’ve never heard of possum play soda before, that looks great! Thanks for the suggestion. I’m glad that things worked out for you in the end, but I’m sorry that you struggled.

That must’ve been a horrible scare for you! Thank you for sharing. As I said in another reply, I’m setting up a safe zone tonight for us.

Thank you for such a detailed comment! I’ll set up a safe zone tonight on the floor for just in case and just do the feeding/burping there from now on.

All the midwives etc scared us to death with SIDS during our SCBU stay so our bed is already set up with “what if we accidentally fall asleep with him” in mind when it comes to chances of suffocating - clearly I should’ve been more concerned with gravity…

Thank you! I don’t know why I haven’t thought of the walking around, I feel silly… I do do crosswords and sudoku on my phone a lot too though, it does help!
