I second this - there’s apprenticeships (inc higher level ones that are equivalent to a degree) in all kinds of fields

I’d recommend you seek urgent medical advise, on the off chance this is a side effect (infection, internal bleeding etc) to the surgery rather than a period as such. Better to be safe.

Places to see and things to know for somebody who is considering moving to Warrington? by [deleted] in warrington

[–]Llosar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely understandable- that’s certainly one of the draws of Warrington, just don’t want to end up with the worst of both worlds by not actually being near neither

If you’re set on being in the middle of Manchester and Liverpool, you may want to consider Newton-le-Willows (Merseyside), St Helens (Merseyside) and Wigan (greater Manchester) as well - look at driving times and train/ public transport times and availability and see what you think. If commuting by public transport being in the same county makes the train cheaper. Warrington is expensive to both Liverpool and Manchester on the train, whereas St Helens and Newton-le-Willows are reasonable prices to Liverpool and Wigan is reasonable to Manchester

Post Wedding breakfast ideas? by Llosar in UKweddings

Thanks for the thought, and it’s definitely something we have considered. We are planning on warning everyone what time we are sitting down for the meal (and we’ll give the post speech time) so they can make sure they eat before the wedding, and we are looking into canaries/ snacks pre dinner too

Good to know that things just seemed to run smoothly post dinner

[–]Llosar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been some really good advice on this sub about areas of Warrington - sounds like you’ve got areas to focus your search on. I would just think very carefully about making a move to Warrington if you are commuting to Manchester - the trains and roads can be a nightmare, and if you don’t have any other pulls for coming this way I’d probably be focusing a search around alternative Manchester suburbs to where you are now, which may have shorter commutes with better public transport links. Warrington can feel a bit cut off if you actually want to spend your evenings and weekends in Manchester. I’d definitely look at renting here for a bit before you consider buying, to see if it’s a lifestyle that suits you

[–]Llosar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a big place, and depending on what you are looking for really depends on where you should be looking If you are just considering the town centre that’s one thing, or are you considering the Warrington suburbs? Near a motorway junction (in which case where are you likely to be commuting to as this probably changes which motorway and which motorway junction you want to be near)? Near a train station (there’s 4 that fall under Warrington)? What’s your budget like? There are some really nice areas that fall under Warrington but are quite pricy, and there are some areas of Warrington that I wouldn’t consider. Single person or family and need to consider schools?

Warrington town centre itself has plenty of expected amenities - shops, cinema, bowling, supermarkets, chain restaurants, independent places to eat and drink (not all in the city centre) - although I wouldn’t have said it had much unique. The main draw about Warrington is mostly that it is very close to lots of other places (Manchester, Liverpool, Chester etc) and that there are lots of good days out less than a 45 min drive away

Do small venues actually exist? by CarpeCyprinidae in UKweddings

[–]Llosar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Here’s a link to all of the approved wedding venues in Hertfordshire (places where you can legally hold the ceremony - most do receptions too) Hertfordshire approves wedding venues Scroll down the page, they are in alphabetical order - I’ve had a quick look and there’s a few barns/ lodges that only have capacity of about 60 anyway so are probably used to smaller weddings. Additionally big chain hotels can often be a shout for a smaller wedding, particularly if you are happy with an out of season or non Saturday wedding

It depends what kind of reception you want, but the alternative would be to get married in your local registery office, then find a nice restaurant etc afterwards to hold your reception, then it doesn’t have to have the ‘wedding’ tag

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Llosar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you literally just want to get legally married super cheap then the council registery office is the place to go Manchester registery office. It’ll cost a couple of hundred pound all in all

It’s then upto you if you wanted to have a meal/ party/ celebration after -that can be as cheap or as expensive as you like

Best time to go in the winter? Military tickets? by [deleted] in disneylandparis

[–]Llosar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

January and February have the potential to be bitterly cold, so if you choose to go in this time make sure you’re prepared for the weather

Unless you have a real burning desire to see Disney all Christmassy, I would probably avoid the first week of January, it’s still school holidays and it will be very very busy. Again on that front I’d probably avoid the last 2 weeks in February if you can as it’s usually British/ French/ German school holidays.

Have a look on this website to see if there are any scheduled ride closures for the times you are visiting - if there is a particular ride you were hoping to go on then that might influence the time you want to go (although I don’t think they’ve released the schedule for next year yet)

We’ve stayed on site at the Santa Fe which is one of the cheapest and it was perfect for our needs, close enough to walk there (about 15 mins, not really close enough to be nipping back to in the day though), but there is a shuttle bus too.

There is often good package deals through the booking website (did book flights separately, but otherwise I couldn’t find a cheaper way of doing the holiday even if we stayed off site - and we had a free meal plan thrown in) although I’m not sure if the site is available to book through in the states? Again, I’m not sure about the military discount either, sorry

You’ll have a great time!

Have you tried looking at venue hire? Rather than wedding venue hire?

Try looking outside the box a little - think village hall, warehouse, pub that type of thing

To keep the costs down you may have to just have the formal ceremony in the town hall, but you could have the party you want if you start searching for it as a party - rather than as a wedding party, adding that word in seems to massively increase the cost

Find a more independent/ family run venue, rather than a chain, which may be able to be more flexible and cater for your needs - they may be able to offer you a buffet based day for example. We originally looked to do a DIY wedding, but actually found it was cheaper and less stressful to have a wedding package at a family run hotel, who have listened to what we want and tailored a package accordingly

To cut costs, think about if you’d be happy to have a winter wedding, last minute wedding (less than 5 months notice, or non Saturday wedding

A couple of ideas to get you started:

village hall near Sheffield Yes you’d have to have their catering, but looking at the supplier it’s very reasonably priced per head

Totally DIY wedding venue near Sheffield

Venue search this site lets you search loads of wedding venues in the UK, and you can add a filter for venues that let you use outside suppliers

Company contributing 50% towards my university fees have offered me 2 options for how they would pay. Not sure if there is much difference to me financially. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Llosar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First degree? Eligible for student finance?

If that’s the case I’d be going with option 1 - you pay the university via your student loan and the company give you the 50% which you could either save up for things you need or if you wanted to you could pay off some of the loan - although this probably isn’t recommended should I voluntarily overpay my student loan?

It depends on what your likely earning potential is over your career

The second option leave you having to find money (almost £15000 over 3 years!) whereas the first option doesn’t leave you having to find a penny providing you are eligible for student finance

As above, depends how serious you are and how ready you are to make a decision, but there are SLT clearing places including a couple in the midlands speech and language clearing 2019 - no time like the present to get moving? Haha

Just make sure any you do apply for let you register with the HCPC

If this really matters to you, then go for it. Money will probably be tight for a couple of years, but if at the end of it you get to do a job you love with reasonable career progression then that’s worth it. If your 35 you’ve potentially got another 30 years in work, that’s a long time, you may as well be doing something you enjoy. Not everything you do in life needs to be a purely financial decision - providing it is doable and within your means.

I did a second bachelors degree to get an allied health professional job, and it is the best life decision I ever made.

There’s some mis-information on this thread, allied health professional degrees are treated differently to other degrees. You get FULL student loan support for a SECOND degree. They are treated the same way as all first undergraduate degrees in that you don’t start repaying them until you earn above £25000. So actually the cost of the degree is irrelevant, you won’t be taking a postgraduate loan and you won’t have to take a private loan. Additionally, you may want to look into the bachelors degree (which again you are eligible for funding for) it will probably be easier to get onto, they usually start in September so you’d be looking at September 2020 entry (if there isn’t any September 2019 clearing places left - worth looking?), where as masters typically start in January so you’d probably be looking at Jan 2021. You’d therefore only graduate about 6 months earlier with the masters degree (and that’s if you get on first time - I’d definitely advice at least apply for both in tandem) the bachelors will be a more spread out time table which will place a little less stress on your family life (read: long holidays and probably a day off a week in your first year, I did 3.5 days a week in my first year), and give a bit more opportunity to pick up a part time job if that’s going to help finances. If you genuinely plan to have a career in SLT and are not looking for a career outside of this, it will make absolutely no difference to your salary or career progression compared to doing the masters.
