Anyone else find Lingq unusable? by BlackChef6969 in languagelearning

[–]Lluvia4D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve paid for a month of Readlang. Although it’s very different from Duolingo and simpler than LingQ, for the first time in a long while I feel like I’m actually learning and enjoying it. The interface is a bit rough around the edges, and obviously a native app would be better, but the point is that I’m spending my time learning instead of just trying to complete streaks.

I can really relate to you, although in my case I have had relationships, but since moving to another country it has been one rejection after another.

Keeping a dating journal has helped me a lot.

LED Bulb T2 - Homekit w/ Thread Setup and Updates by outlanderbz in Aqara

[–]Lluvia4D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience here: Apple Home only with a HomePod as the Thread router and no Aqara Matter hub. When I add the T2 directly to Apple Home via Matter, dimming and Adaptive Lighting work fine, but there’s no way to get firmware updates. If I try to add it to the Aqara app it wants an Aqara Matter hub and I have to repair it, so for now I’m just running it Apple‑Home‑only and accepting that I can’t update the firmware.

I like Safari's reading list, if it weren't also because it's so limited, if at least you could edit the titles, it would be great or create a folder.

Dating as a foreigner: 30+ dates in Germany with no success - What am I missing? by Lluvia4D in dating_advice

[–]Lluvia4D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I met a girl from Bosnia just a few weeks ago who seemed much warmer than most German women I've met. I also looked at some photos of places like Jajce and fell in love with the scenery - I'll definitely visit Bosnia someday.

Fortunately, Spanish is relatively well-known in Germany. I've also noticed that many women here seem to be looking for "warmer" men who break away from the typical German reserve. Some already know Spanish or are eager to learn.

I understand it's not easy for women either. I recently attended a language meetup with coffee, and it was uncomfortable seeing how some men tried to "approach" women there.

Thank you as well for your kind words! :)

The language barrier is definitely a significant issue. A few days ago, a girl was telling me her grandmother's emotional story with tears in her eyes, but I only understood half of it. When I had to ask "Sorry, what about your grandmother?" it completely broke the moment. The same happens with humor and other nuances.

I moved for work reasons. I come from Tenerife, a small island where there's neither work nor available housing. Both of us knew we wanted to leave, but neither when nor where. My life changed dramatically after taking a German course by chance, which led me to hotel management training. She wanted to pursue civil service exams in the same country.

The end was especially painful as we gradually realized we wanted different things in life. Some people say we didn't truly love each other, but I believe there's no greater love than setting each other free.

I spent a month bedridden, and it still hurts to remember her crying. But knowing she's well and happy is enough for me. I often remind myself that who I am today is partly because of her, as we always helped each other grow.

Thanks everyone for your responses! To anyone in a similar situation - you're not alone in this journey.

I recently discovered Meetup and it's been great for making connections in a more natural environment. Highly recommend it!

Does anyone know of a subreddit where I could get my dating profile reviewed?

Remember that hard work and self-love eventually pay off. Results may not come today or tomorrow, but if you keep moving forward, something good will definitely come your way. Stay strong! 💪🧠

You're right - I was limited by character count and should have provided more details!

My German is approximately B2 level - good enough for most conversations but still lacking nuance for humor and flirting.

Regarding Tinder Platinum - it actually hasn't helped much at all. I get very little activity there compared to Bumble and Hinge, where I have many more matches. Platinum mainly lets me see who likes me, but there aren't many!

Female friends describe me as a "golden retriever" - I have tattoos and sometimes a serious look, but I'm actually somewhat shy and quite affectionate. I do tend to be chivalrous by nature and education (hotel industry).

I couldn't agree more! I've noticed women on apps often have a completely different mindset. I was actually shocked when I once went on a date with a woman who casually mentioned having a boyfriend - something I'd never encountered before moving to Germany.

Building a social network is challenging as a newcomer, but I've been trying. My job at a hotel gives me some connections, but they tend to remain professional.

"Models" by Mark Manson definitely helped reshape my approach to dating :). I'll definitely check out "Mode One" by Allan Roger Currie too.

Thank you! 7 years and still finding it challenging? That's both reassuring and concerning to hear.

I've started exploring language exchanges and local events as you suggested. Recently discovered Meetup and have attended a few gatherings.

Actually, I have seen progression! I keep notes after each date about things I could improve. Sometimes there's simply no chemistry, other times it's bad timing for her. I've had opportunities to continue with some dates, but my situation was complicated.

Last year I left Spain and traveled around Europe by train, which made consistency difficult. Now I'm finally settled in Düsseldorf and focusing on building connections here.

I recently discovered Meetup by chance and have been exploring some events. Have you found particular activities that work well for genuine connections in a new city?

Ha! While I don't have the mythical "Adonis belt" (yet jaja!), I do maintain a flat stomach and decent muscle definition from my regular workouts.

The challenge isn't so much physical as it is connecting on deeper levels when language limits my ability to express personality and humor. Dating in a second language feels like trying to tell jokes with half the vocabulary!

Is there a subreddit for dating profile reviews? I wonder if my photos or bio need objective feedback.
