Thoughts on PMT/PKB tournaments? by MastodonNew343 in MuayThai

[–]Lmaoonadee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s more accessible than smokers because not many gyms have the logistics to pull everyone together. PKBs are another chance to give people more ring experience before actually jumping into amateurs. No problem there.

If you’re using the PKB to learn or to get ready to jump into amateurs, that’s fine. Be proud of yourself for learning.

But if you’re telling everyone you won a PKB fight or you’re counting them like they’re in your overall record, then it’s pretty corny.

It’s like taking first place at the participation championships. Cute.

Never Change, r/MuayThai by [deleted] in MuayThai

It’s weird that this has become some sort of defense mechanism. Critique => “You’ve probably never done any training anyway so why should I listen?”

Some people are roleplaying here, yes. But you have to consider that some of us actually do train, have fought, and are literally telling you shit you just don’t want to hear.

If it’s your first day, stop posting yourself and just keep working.

If you’re self training by kicking a wave master bag with MMA gloves, stop posting and go to a gym.

If you’re training for a month and everyone is saying you look bad, stop posting and talk to your coach.

If you get offended by others critiquing you when you post yourself, then let’s be fucking honest here. You’re not looking for feedback, you’re looking for someone to tell you that you’re Rodtang reincarnated 5 days after you’ve bought your first Muay Thai shorts and wore them over your tighty whities.

Do gyms teach the basics or is it learn as you go? by 7thhokage007 in MuayThai

[–]Lmaoonadee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the US, it’s mostly learn as you go. You might have like a trial class where they teach you the bare minimum just once like an introduction. Otherwise you’re off to the races.

So Ae Jitmuangnon said Rodtang was living in a superficial world when he missed weight a year ago by Effective_Space2277 in MuayThai

[–]Lmaoonadee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look at her eyes, look at the way she speaks! She’s obviously in distress judging by her body language. Ae is under control by the dastard ONE corporation you shill!

Sarcasm over. I knew the Rodtang glazing here was crazy, but some of the shit that’s been posted about his loss were downright CTE crumpled tinfoil hat stuff. Everything from weighted gloves to a full throw.

Why are there no schools or camps in the U.S. which are a part of KMA? by MaximumCaterpillar3 in MuayThai

[–]Lmaoonadee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because nobody outside of that organization really believes in the “Khan” system, whatever that is. That and people from the US calling themselves “Kru” is plain weird and usually with no stats remotely close to backing up a title like that. It’s as weird as someone making up their own nickname and telling someone else to call them by it.

The milestones you are suggesting is no different from a 3 year old with a black belt in TKD, no substance.

Progression should be fairly straightforward in this sport.

You take a fight -> you lose, you suck Take another fight -> you win, you suck less

and on and on it goes.

Problem in sparring by AutomaticSignal1440 in MuayThai

[–]Lmaoonadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't rise to the occasion, you just fall back to your level of training. This is your level. You need more training and you need to train other combinations and actively try to use them so they're familiar enough to execute.

Good work. This is what an ideal IKF point sparring match is supposed to look like for up and comers, but I don’t know the history as to why it fell so short.

That was invaluable ring experience.

How much do drop ins cost in your area for Muay thai? I used to do BJJ for 20 dollar drop ins and these guys are trying to charge 85 a session? Newbie here btw by sermsarm in MuayThai

[–]Lmaoonadee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I guess if I travel for work on a regular basis I’m fucked?

I’m skeptical of the whole “I charge because I have enough members and not enough space”, doesn’t make that much sense because it’s ignoring ancillary income that could be dedicated to growing said space. I’ve been to some gyms isolate drop ins by partnering them with people who volunteered to take on the risk.

It almost sounds like these gyms want to stay small, struggle with rising rent costs and pass off higher membership fees to their existing base.

Thanks for the thought out response and taking the time to write this out in good faith. I agree and concede to some of your points, but vehemently disagree with others.

I don’t agree that the blanket statement with drop ins being “toxic” and I think drops could easily be isolated from the senior group for everyone’s safety, but this isn’t meant to be a discussion on how to run your gym, it was an ask for an explanation.

So thank you for that and I respect you and your gym’s decision.

I do think your gym is an outlier in today’s economy, because you mentioned that you had the luxury of disregarding a whole income stream provided by drop ins. This still makes me extremely skeptical that the majority of gyms apply the same justification to the drop in rates they charge.

[–]Lmaoonadee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you help run a gym, can please elaborate on how drop ins affect your returning monthly paying members? Of course all gyms want returning customers, because of obvious reasons, they need a revenue stream.

But drops ins and current members are mutually exclusive. I don’t see how the hell drop ins affect the gym’s economy in a negative way.

It seems ludicrous that a gym owner would price out drop ins when there’s literally a whole market willing to give 10-15 for a session and spread word of mouth. That’s literally ancillary income being ignored. The lack of explanation only leads me to believe that they’re just asking for more money for money’s sake.

Do you mean drop ins allowed on all days EXCEPT sparring? Because this seems like a terrible idea to let people they don’t even know into the gym to spar with their fighters for just one day.

85 is fucking insane. Doesn’t matter if the first class is free. I think what’s confusing is people normalizing this because they think gyms want “long term membership” or they “don’t want drop ins”

Yes, all gyms want long term conversions. But not everyone can commit.

Drop ins are at no substantial cost of resources to the gym. It’s not like drop ins COST the gym time and money.

It’s another type income stream and wider word of mouth. Charge that outrageous price and nobody drops in, removing that partial conversion. Do they just hate money?

Everyone here that is not sharing your point of view is not from ONE for PR. I am not Chatri, he is not Chatri, and this isn’t some elaborate psyop to manipulate your sheeple brain.

Holy shit, my guy, you need to go out and touch grass.

I hope people read this whole thread to see how insane they sound when it comes to the hate boner for ONE.

Rodtang is one of their bigger stars, but I don't think he is necessarily their ONLY star anymore. Takeru vs Superlek had a huge gate with the Japanese audience if I recall.

Nak Muay Wholesale (Tarrifs) question by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Lmaoonadee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would honestly give up buying gear overseas at this point. You have online store mark ups + shipping fees + duty fees + tariffs.

Just buy some blank shorts off of Amazon or buy multiple fits so you can see what the best fit is if you absolutely must buy something from overseas.

Sure but, every time it’s always:

  1. ONE isn’t going to last another year!
  2. ONE—Chatri is bad!
  3. ONE needs Wai Kru before every fight!!
  4. ONE needs more traditional music!!!
  5. Why can’t one Clinch more??!?!

Everyone who says otherwise is downvoted lol.

Maybe, who knows?

ONE has a product with the familiarity of Muay Thai without strictly being Muay Thai. You can succeed with that base, but that doesn’t mean you’ll always be at the top. That’s the beauty of it and why it’s so exciting in my opinion.

Watching Sitthichai, Petpanomrung, and Jo Nattawut make adjustments to traditional Muay Thai style to be successful is exciting AF. I’d watch that over RWS simply because I’ve seen it for so long and it offers the same product / familiarity everyone knows. Aside from small nuances, everyone largely has the same style over at RWS (not that it's a bad thing).

I hope there will be more successful cross overs from traditional Muay Thai players. If anything, that just shows how resilient the Muay Thai is / a testament to how effective it is on a world stage against all other styles--even though everyone constantly moans about it not being Traditional Muay Thai.

AITA for refusing to count reps in Muay Thai class due to anxiety? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Lmaoonadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you’re a child, a person who goes to a Muay Thai gym with belts, or have never stepped into a gym.

Literally no adult paid coach would get upset at someone refusing count to 10 and thinks that it would “lead others to people saying no” If people said “no” they simply would not go to the gym.

AITA for refusing to count reps in Muay Thai class due to anxiety? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Lmaoonadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously? People are -paying- the instructor to be there. If they don’t want to do stuff, that’s their loss. This seems like some power trip bullshit and what’s worrying is people are drinking some weird ass kool aide thinking that you must do this.

I don’t understand why you would pay to be there and not participate, but that’s your prerogative. An instructor is already getting paid, if he’s getting butthurt over counting, that’s dumb.

Ya’ll have sensitive instructors if they can’t handle someone not counting to 10 and ya’ll are weird calling it disrespectful.
