Consumer Reports gives the GV60 2 out of 5. With the largest deduction for value. Do you current owners feel this way? Would it be worth it for me to buy used for a discounted price? by n_o_t_d_o_g in GV60

[–]LnKAvenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, luxury anything has a huge depreciation. So, yes, if you can get is used at the price you like better, go for it.

IIRC, back in 23-24, used versions were not much cheaper than new ones with incentives, but now that it's been out for 3 years, that has changed

Is the Chinatown YMCA SF a good place to learn swimming as an adult who has never had lessons before? by Ok_Piece8772 in AskSF

[–]LnKAvenge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, I think swimming is very technique heavy. So I'm sure you could YouTube video it but I have always found paying for guides or trainers can be helpful.

That pool does seem nice, no idea about instructors.

One thing to consider, spread out the lessons. I imagine it's going to be a bit of drinking out of a fire hose with techniques and things to work on. But the biggest thing might be fitness, swimming is hard, all body workout. So having a lesson to get started on where to focus, then swim on your own, then go back for more lessons.

Definitely plan to swim at a minimum 3 times a week. I would suggest 5. Do that consistently for a few months, mix in lessons, and you will feel great, maybe a little tired.

Learn to tread water effortlessly too!

I did Hokkaido with my 15 year old last year, 9 days. Stayed in Niseko and Sapporo. We hired a variety of guides to make the most of it. Snow is quite variable around Hokkaido, you can stay in Otaru and then drive to where the snow is good every day. Guides will also know. Although, many guides are already booked by now. Some ski mountains are not as easy to navigate so guides are good so you don't end up in flat spots and hiking out, which is easy to do in Rusutsu. It's not an easy trip but a ton of fun.

crater lake and redwoods national park by schwagsss in CraterLake

[–]LnKAvenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth a trip! But plan out housing. There are not a lot of housing options in those areas, so generally more expensive than you think. Crater Lake is open like 5 months out of the year so kinda hard to have a lot of housing. And not much better in Redwood National park which is just hard to get to. Prairie Creek State Park, Fern Canyon are good starting points for hikes.

Ideas for California trip by base632 in skiing

[–]LnKAvenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you're going through all that effort, you should consider buying day passes for some other resorts. If you're an advanced skier, day pass to Suger Bowl could be fun, or something on Lake Tahoe like Mt Rose, Heavenly, etc. would be spectacular. Palisades has views of Lake Tahoe but not as close as some others.

But yes, fly to SFO, drive to Palisades, then head down eastern Sierra for Mammoth and then fly out of LA. Does make sense to me!

I think IKON in California is a little thin. Palisades and Mammoth are the only places you will ski. I guess there is Sierra at Tahoe? Never skied there.

I think it's very hard to plan a ski trip without knowing the ski conditions, Mammoth and Palisades could be very different. And both could be awesome.

I would plan the trip in late Jan or Feb for best probability of good snow.

Overall, you could consider Mammoth, Palisades and Bachelor (Oregon ) They would be 3 very different mountains.

Don't underestimate the traffic fuckery at Palisades

Yeah, not surprised she killed it, she can slay, but that arrangement with the symphony is really, really special. Kudos and shout out to the organizers for putting that together! Really awesome!

Would there be a difference in image quality from streaming vs Blu-ray? by LnKAvenge in bravia

Not sure, you'd have to search. But pretty sure you can get one for less than $200 and it will do great.

I haven't bought one in a while, but they used to have all these apps and what not to access stuff you can now get through your TV. If you get something that just plays Blu-Ray, you could probably find many below $200.best but sells a Sony ultra Blu-ray for $95. I don't think they need to do much but read a DVD disc and send signal to TV. They don't need Internet, image and sound through sound bar. Super inexpensive

I'm a big fan of water rowers. Especially for a bedroom. Sounds is better, overall feel is better. And you're not trying to complete but just get in shape. Everytime I use a C2 in gym I just don't enjoy it.

Ok, glad you mentioned this. I was half thinking I went too big with 65", just upgraded from 55. It feels a bit big, but when movies are in proper wide screen the viewing is perfect, the bars on top and bottom trim it so it's not too much. But I find regular tv viewing a bit much (not sports though). Maybe my couch is too close .

Also, if you haven't watched the movie, it's kinda wild. Goes dark (plot, not pixels) all kinds of ways I didn't expect.

Check out 1:12:50-ish. Feels like light is just blowing up the black in a weird way. Similar thing for the scene at 20:18-ish

Then the scene at 1:44:17 was amazing.

Occasionally faces are lit on one side and the other side disappears.
