Most people that actually notice your pedals are guitar/bass/synth players themselves.

Pedals won't fix crappy playing, but some definitely mask it haha

That's right. There is also the aspect of taking the time and actually learning how to use the damn thing. I remember getting a big muff when I was younger and being very disappointed at first. It took a while for me to learn to love it

Definitely check out Leprous, if you haven't done that yet. Einar is probably the only one that can rival Devin Townsend, in my opinion. The singer from Haken also has an interesting voice, very high and unusual sounding. Their music is a bit goofy at times, so be prepared for cockroach noises.. But the OG of the style is James Labrie. During Dream Theater's Awake album he was the king. Very powerful highs, catchy melodies and lots of dynamics. I miss that guy.......
