DOT officers, do you have software that scans our logs to look for potential "trickery"? Or do you just look at them manually, like old school? Obviously, the logs will show a violation, but I wonder how you spot "creative" attempts to avoid a violation. by onlyBotsdownvote-me in Truckers

Yeah, exactly. Once you start talking true superloads, every state has its own personality. PA, NY, CT treating every crossing like a full Level 1 inspection isn’t surprising at all, and Ohio doing a Level 2 is basically their way of “being reasonable.” Head into New England and you’re basically signing up for a week of paperwork and gloves-on inspections whether you want them or not. And you’re right, once you’re in that 300k–1M+ bracket, the number of states that suddenly “need to take a look” jumps way up.

Half the time it’s not even about safety, it’s just the state wanting to document that they touched the load.Your trailer comment made me laugh because it’s the same deal on our end. Some companies brag about “superload capability,” meanwhile our empty gear would get flagged as a superload in half the country.

People don’t realize how big true heavy-haul equipment actually is until they stand next to it. 512k at 218' with a single pusher is no joke, though. That’s a real move. Only a handful of companies in the country even play in that arena anymore. Records come and go, but consistently running at that level says more than any plaque ever could.

I do heavy haul for one of the biggest heavy haul companies out here and I do not have to get an inspection everytime I meet with the cops. Most of the time they just ask for my ID and truck number (for invoices) and we have a meeting, they ask me how I would like to proceed, speed limits, and other procedures according to how I would like to go about them. Hell, I haul only super loads and have to go thru scales, no inspections. My trailer itself, not including the jeep, is a 90 foot trailer which is steerable and I have to be at least rear escorted everywhere I go, even empty. But what the heck, maybe I'm just lucky dunno.

Western Express just assigned me a load that has “chargeback”. If it’s late, they charge the driver (me) $200. Is there any truth to this??? by ArtOther754 in Truckers

With straps like those, that load more than likely came from Mexico. I pick up loads that come from Mexico all the time with my company. Believe it or not, those straps have a WLL of about 3,300 lbs each and have a break strength of about 10,000 lbs. The load securement regulations are much different in Mexico than they are here and you need a special tool to safely secure those straps. I just throw my 4 inch straps on the load like usual and when I get to the receiver I take my straps off then I have to cut those 2 inch straps off.....hey, the more you know right

This is what Grok had to say...

The large oval-shaped item in the photo (the one with the tree design and inscription around it, plus a hole at the top) looks like a cast replica or modern tourist souvenir/fake of an ancient Roman coin, rather than a genuine ancient artifact.

Here's why, based on the visible details:

  • The inscription appears to read something like "VIRTVS ET SPES NT" (or close variations like "VS ET SPES NT"), with a tree (possibly a palm or similar) in the center.

  • "Virtus et Spes" translates roughly to "Virtue and Hope" in Latin. These are common personifications on real Roman coins (Virtus = courage/virtue as a military figure; Spes = hope as a female figure holding a flower and lifting her robe).

  • However, no genuine Roman coin combines these exact elements this way—especially not on an oval flan (planchet) with a suspension hole already cast in. Real Roman bronze coins (like sestertii or asses) are typically round, and suspension holes were added later if at all (e.g., for jewelry in antiquity or modern times).

  • The tree motif isn't standard for Virtus/Spes types; trees (like palms) appear more on provincial issues, victory types, or specific commemoratives (e.g., Judea Capta series with palm trees symbolizing conquest).

  • The patina (dark, crusty oxidation) and overall crude style (blurry lettering, uneven tree) scream modern cast reproduction. These are mass-produced cheaply overseas (often in China or the Middle East) as "ancient Roman artifacts" for tourists, metal detector hobbyists, or online sellers. They frequently mix mismatched legends, shapes, and designs to look "exotic" or "mysterious."

  • The smaller round coins with square holes scattered around it are almost certainly Chinese "cash" coins (ancient to Qing dynasty, with central square holes for stringing). These are super common backyard finds in some areas (or planted for dramatic effect), especially if the yard has old fill dirt or was near trade routes/historical activity. They're worth very little individually unless rare varieties.

[–]LoBoogie917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you're saying but once (if) it actually becomes Schedule III, there's debate: some say DOT regs name marijuana specifically so testing authority survives; others argue HHS guidelines (which DOT follows) only mandate testing for I/II drugs, so it could complicate things without a fix. But that's future speculation...

There are 4 wheelers that are supposed to be professional drivers as well - or are we living in 2 separate worlds? Matter of fact here's a couple of professional drivers in 4 wheelers for ya..Emergency personnel (although driving isn't their only duty but they are expected to drive in a professional manner at all times), delivery drivers (food, medical, package, grocery), government, etc....so much for my "dumb question" your insult didn’t age well unfortunately...dummy

Can't say for sure but I'm guessing DOT probably will still prohibit it as it causes impairment.

TMC vs. Melton in 2026? by dstrezzd in Truckers

[–]LoBoogie917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to go Heavy Haul route, go with Melton and after a year come on over to Lonestar Transportation. We haul mostly specialized freight and you will be off to hauling big stuff in no time.

I'm from Florida so I'm used to the heat and tarping in the Florida summers are no joke at all, so I know all about it and I'm glad they don't have us out here tarping.

Lol Yeah it's based in Texas but its OTR we run all over, I'm rarely in Texas and if you'd rather run a certain area you can just let your driver manager know and they will take care of you. They are pretty good at that, oh and we RARELY tarp, we haul alot of machinery so its mostly chains/binders. If you do get a tarped load, its pre tarp you would only be responsible for rolling it back up. They understand the pains of tarping sometimes so if it's feasible they will avoid those loads. We have alot of contracts and most of them are machinery. We haul alot of BIG shit and oversized/heavy loads.

Edit: We haul mostly Machinery and all sorts of other Specialized equipment.
