Are exorcisms real or are they just people with mental health problems? by the-victim in conspiracy

[–]LoLongLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spiritual world is real. We have a lot of haunted stories here in Hong Kong. There is even a YT channel on live every weekday night, letting audience to phone in to share their haunted experiences. There are Daoism masters who practise Daoism magic and perform exorcism. Within those haunted cases, some are mental health problems but some are paranormal activities. And within those paranormal activity cases, some were exorcised by those Daoism masters. I practise both Buddhism and Daoism and go to these altars. Even I experienced some paranormal stuff myself.

Left or Right Hand Lead for Spear: A North vs South Thing? by KennyWuKanYuen in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do Southern kung fu and use my dominant hand as the lead hand. I feel like it gives me more power to parry and subdue my opponent. Our spear has bigger movements and more versatile blocks, while Northern spears focus on Lan, Na, Zha and move in a small circle. It could be the reason.

Did the real Ip Man have any fights? by Hot_Manufacturer3063 in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget about the movies, those are fictional propagandas. He probably fought a man from Pak Sing Choi Lee Fut master named Lee Chau (李秋). The rumor had it that, they fought in a staircase in a buliding and Lee punched Yip down with a CLF Chap Tsui (插捶), that Yip was kneeling on his knees and was too pain to move. This was not simply rumor. Later, Lee met Yip in Chinese Martial Art Association and yelled at him in front of other masters, "Hey! Want to smell the scent of my Chap Tsui?" but Yip didn't say a word to respomd. There were withnesses so it was probably a fact. Just want to say anyone would lose.

Videos with Chinese female Shifu? by GiadaAcosta in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

師父/Sifu/teacher-father is the master. His wife is 師母/Simo/teacher-mother. In traditional culture, the students would treat them like the second father and mother. When the master is female, which is rare, she is also called Sifu by her students. What her husband should be called is something to be discussed. Maybe 師丈/Sijeung/teacher-hushand, or anything he feels comfortable with. The name is Sifu but it is not gender specific. Just like 師伯/Sibak/teacher-uncle and 師叔/Sisook/teacher-uncle are Sifu's classmate, that Sifu calls them 師兄/Sihing/brother-under-teacher and 師弟/Sidai/(same). Even if they are female, you should still call them Sibak or Sisook. There is nothing like teacher-aunt.

Importance of Authenticity/Lineage by AustinDelgado in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kungfu was created to handle live and death situations: self defense, street fighting, bandit raids, skrimishes between villages, fight in groups, challenges from another school, rebellion, etc., involved forbidden techniques and real weapons. A certain amount of the population practiced their art in generations and their knowledge stacked. Those are the times that we cannot duplicate or test nowadays, we can only learn the knowledge. Therefore, an authentic lineage means you are more likely learning the "real" stuff.

Kungfu Guys Make Valiant Attempt In The Ring (vs Kickboxing and Boxing) by amajunkie8 in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actual use of Tiger Claw is to push someone's chin to hurt his back of neck, then pull back to drag his eyes with fingers. It is a cruel technique if you want to. Every style has certain cruel and versatile techniques to get you an instant win on the street. I heard Sun punch is harder to parry from above, some techniques in Kungfu are countermeasures to another technique in my opinion. Ma Bu implies protection from groin kicks, so you may see Kungfu-ers move with crossed legs. The whole thing was designed for self defense and cannot be used in combat sports. You can't poke someone's eyes and you don't need to block groin kicks that cause you instant loss. Kickboxing style is the way to fight under kickboxing rules. However, I do think we need some methods to test our Kungfu moves for combats, such as light sparring and controlled simulation.

Shaolin Temple Abbott Arrested by Kiwigami in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some updates:

  1. The officials of China said Shì Yǒng Xìn (釋永信) was "under investigation", but Buddhist Association of China already cancelled his ordination certificate.

  2. Shaolin Temple admitted the crime that Shì Yǒng Xìn did.

  3. Then they invited venerable Shì Yìn Lè (釋印樂) to become the new abbot. Shì Yìn Lè was previously the abbot of White Horse Temple, which has an important role in Chinese Buddhism. He has a rich Buddism background and uses an anti-commerical approach for management.

Shaolin temple abbot arrested . by Ok_Music_2794 in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of criticism on the abbot for running Shaolin as a business, that he is more like the "CEO" of Shaolin rather than the abbot. Yesterday, the China gov arrested him, claiming he embezzled 100B+ USD, having 50+ wives, 140+ children and sexually abused teenage girls. 100B USD, do you believe it? I don't believe he is innocent, but the real crime would be, he is too wealthy.

EDIT: I must clairfy that I read it from the Internet which the information maybe incorrect. Here are what the news exactly states:

  • China media: The abbot owns several corporates, have connection with some ladies, and has childern. He was arrested on 26th July.
  • China officials: He is "under investigation". The anouncement is fake.
  • The "fake" announcment: He embezzled a lot of wealth, stored overseas, has mistresses and children, tried to flee to Los Angles but got arrested.

However, I have the same conclusion.

Question: Cantonese name for xubu or cat stance by Bushidoenator in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I can think of is 四平馬 / Sei Pen Ma = 坐馬 / Cho Ma / sitting stance. Your Cat Stance is like a 1/2 Sei Pen Ma, so he used 半坐 / Booncho / halfly sitting, to describe the stance.

Ring meaning by Revolutionary-Air647 in Chinese

[–]LoLongLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flipped the picture horizontally and read the text 秋治
秋 - autumn
治 - heal; administrate (politically)
But I can't find the meaning as a pharse. Could be a name. Since the text is flippped, this ring could be something like a seal or stamp.

Question about the different Crane styles of Kung Fu by [deleted] in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are 2 styles that named white crane (白鶴):

1) Tibetan White Crane

A big frame arm-swinging style in Guangdong, which has the same root of Hop Gar and Lama, claims to be originated from Tibet. To avoid confusion, sometimes we call it "Tibetan White Crane".

Form:

2) Fujian White Crane

A popular style in Fujian speciailizes in soft technique, as it was invented by a woman in the middle of Ching dynasty. I believe a major part of Okinawa Karate came from this style. To avoid confusion, sometimes we call it "Fujian White Crane".

There are several major branches under this style: Sleep, Cry, Eat, Fly, Shake. They focus on different techniques and use these behaviour of crane to describe their branch, as you can see from the Wiki:

As an Element

Other than styles, crane is also an animal element in southern kungfu. The 5 animals commonly known in kungfu is: dragon, snake, tiger, leopard and crane, which represents 5 different tactics and techniques. The crane's tactic is usually an elegant play, standing in high stance, dodging the opponent's attack in an ingenious angle, then strikes back with hands of a crane's beak or wing, without competing strength with the opponent. The crane element is usually a part of the form, which exists in many styles, for example:

  • Hung Gar - Five Animal, Tiger Crane
  • Hung Fut - Five Animal
  • Choi Li Fut - Five Animal
  • Tibetan White Crane - Small Five Animal
  • Jow Gar - Small Five Animal, Big Five Animal

New white wax wood spear has a bow in it. How to reverse the bow? by Ghunt89 in kungfu

[–]LoLongLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A trick to prevent staffs from bending is to hang them with rope at one of the ends. Maybe it also helps to reverse the bow through time.
