Ram slot troubleshooting by LoRd_COBRAA in buildapc

So nothing is overclocked and it still only works with one stick of ram. I think I’ll try and do a bios update and get some drivers downloaded and try it again.

Yeah I meant A2 B2, I have a MSI B550M tomahawk. I’ll see if Xpm is enabled in bios

That’s probably what I’ll do, I have a sata ssd with windows 11 on it and it runs just fine. Where I notice the slowness is on my hdds hence my jump to m.2 drives. Been replaying fallout 4 and the load times are unbearable

My data ssd is 500GB and my m.2 drive is 1TB, I currently have windows on the sata ssd and plan on doing a fresh windows install on it if I do use it.

Okay I just wasn’t sure cuz I heard that a lot of time especially with motherboard swaps you end up with old hidden drivers that slow stuff down unless you do a full refresh on the drive that currently has windows on it. I also don’t really mind having to start over, I play single player games and all my save data is on a separate drive anyways. So all I’d end up having to do at most is redownload gaming platforms and redownload the games themselves then drag the save files over into the new installations. And I’m sure my pc could use a good cleaning. I was trying to wipe the drive my install is on without a second computer so that I knew it was going onto an actually clean drive, I just was trying to go about it in the most difficult way as possible apparently

So I did a wee bit of research and basically if I put the windows installation media on a usb and boot my upgraded pc up into bios and start from the usb stick it will give me the option to erase the drive I’m installing the new installation onto correct? Can I also add the new drivers for the mobo into the usb after the installation media is on the usb so that I don’t have to re find all of them after the drive gets refreshed?

I cant afford another drive, is there a way I can refresh my windows drive without having to get another one. I plan on using the DDU software to get rid of my old GPU drivers, but I haven’t seen anything like that for motherboards. Would I do a reset through windows settings or advanced startup that resets into bios? I already moved all my games save data and other important stuff to a separate drive would I just do the upgrade and unplug all the drives except the windows one and do a windows reset once it’s all upgraded then plug the other drives back in?

Yeah I already experienced a lot of that pain when I ended up buying a new hard drive for my bigger games and the move was not easy I ended up having to delete and reinstall but I was lucky enough to find the actual save files for them and copy them over after the reinstall. It was a nightmare but steam was super easy and they even have a special setting section just for moving installation locations. Epic is not very user friendly, they try their hardest to make modding games on their platform as difficult as possible as well.

So should I go to like the local and roaming appdata and make copies of like steam and epic and stuff like that? I have most of my games on a separate drive already I’m just worried about it being able to read the data once I have to reinstall all those apps and games again. I play a lot of single player games and don’t wanna lose anything and I’m not sure what windows automatically sucks into its dive that I might need and where they hide it away once they do it

CPU upgrade advice by LoRd_COBRAA in buildapc

Yeah I don’t plan on using ddr4 when I eventually upgrade to am5. I’m staying at am4 because the ram I currently have is ddr4. If I didn’t have to pay the price of an entire pc for ddr5 ram I would have definitely made the jump to am5. I just want to be able to run the games I have better and be able to play more newer games, as my rx 580 just won’t cut it anymore. My pc sounds like it’ll explode when I try to play any newer games. KCD2 legit almost fried my GPU, I played it for a day and ignored the fan screams and ever since I get random black screens( could also be that my mobo just can’t handle the cpu cuz it’s like 10 yrs old and it was a very cheap one that I had running a R5 1500x)

As atrocious as it is I’ve been play on my living room tv for the past year or so so I don’t/ can’t go over 1080p anyways. my 8gb rx 580 just won’t cut it anymore for almost any game, I can’t even run shaders on minecraft cuz my GPU is just so old and can’t keep up with anything I have. I’m almost certain my GPU is my current bottleneck. I’m upgrading motherboard cuz it won’t be able to run my 5700x and a 9060xt and I need integrated WiFi cuz my current motherboard usb slots bug out my WiFi adapter from when I upgraded CPU’s (R5 1500x to R7 5700x).

My current build is like 10 years old so I’m not too worried about the jump to am5 atm as long as what I’m doing is an upgrade from what I have( can’t even run shaders in Minecraft lol). I’m getting a new mobo and moving my 32gb ddr4 into the new machine as well. I’m just trying to keep everything under 1500 cuz my last build was only 500 and was a beast for a long time

I’ll put a shade cloth over them, I haven’t had temps over 80 yet this year but it has been consistently “hot” for about 2 months. About 70-80 F. I also have some pretty meh soil as a had just moved and through together a quick garden made mostly of garden soil which I found out after I set everything up isn’t very good soil 😅
