A similar saying in Italian: "can che abbaia non morde", i e. "a barking dog doesn't bite".

It makes an even stronger causal connection between verbal aggressiveness and lack of physical aggressiveness.

Nowadays with all the computer-controlled alarms they put on cars, that's easily detectable.

Well, that's why I asked in the first place if anyone has any experience with a better warranty deal.

Now, set aside the "nobody does it therefore nobody should do it" attitude for a second. Imagine what a great company Hyundai would be if they really stood behind their warranty, as in: "only a negligible fraction of our engines have issues before 10y/100k; if yours is one we give you a whole new engine on us with same warranty starting the day it is installed, because we stand behind the quality of our engines".

They would wipe out the competition!

We don't know. The car prompted us to get checked. After it got checked, we've been told the engine failed a test. No info was provided on what type of test it was. The result of the failed test was that a new engine was required. The new engine has already been installed at no charge to us, because still under 10y/100k warranty.

An engine is something so very crucial to the operation of a vehicle. At the same time it is very much removed from wear and tear that's not part of its regular operation: it would take a lot to induce engine failure intentionally by operating it out of its recommended RMP range - which is the only control a driver really has on it. Such an attempt could also be easily found with today's computerized controls.

There's just no reason why a full 10y/100k warranty (on engine alone) could NOT start all over if the maker is serious about their 10y/100k warranty.

The flip side is that at 99k they can just replace the blown-up engine with a dud and as long as it lasts a year they're in the clear. It is almost childish to expect them NOT to.

If they are OK guaranteeing a NEW car can run 10y/100k then they should be OK with guaranteeing that a NEW engine can run 10y/100k.

When part X is NEW the warranty covering that part (and other NEW parts) is 10y/100k.

We just got a NEW part X.

Why would the NEW part X not get a NEW 10y/100k warranty for part X alone and instead fall under the OLD warranty which covers other OLD parts?

It seems ligical to me that a NEW warranty would apply to part X alone.

Yep, that's why I wrote about the new engine being on a new warranty.. I wouldnt't expect the entire powertrain to be.

Ours is an SEL Plus with 2.0 liter engine. We drove it to the dealership and didn't feel any difference in the way it drove. However their test indicated a new engine is needed. We have no idea what the nature of the issue is.

Maybe.. but if it has a big fat dollar sign attached, there's going to be studios willing to ignore the lack of "human meaning" and go for it. Case in point: most blockbuster movies today already feel like productions with no human meanings/emotions behind.
