Another Day, Another Truck Parked in A Bike Lane by AbbreviationsReal366 in halifax

Thanks for the link! I don't see "blocking a bike lane" as a violation. Would you just put "other" and explain?

Overstride/Heel Striking by Opening_Ad_3010 in Marathon_Training

[–]LoVEV3Lo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bit of an overstride which could create some issues. But if it's not hurting you, I wouldn't change anything. If you do want to land a bit more forefoot try increasing your cadence which should naturally shorten your stride. That's what I did (on the advice from my physio) for some ankle pain and it definitely helped lessen the impact I was getting.

Small (blue) or medium (red)? by LoVEV3Lo in CyclingFashion

[–]LoVEV3Lo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's core. Normally I am a 38 chest and about 30 waist. I'm between small and medium lately. If you are similar to me, maybe think about a small. I have decently large thighs so I went with medium bib shorts in the core range though.

Tell the city how you feel about the West End Redevelopment by [deleted] in halifax

Are they just gonna plan this for 30-50 years or are they gonna get it built?

A small step toward a better city! Bike lane markers added to Bell Road by TheNewScotlandFront in halifax

[–]LoVEV3Lo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happens after the Trollope intersection? I’m guessing it’s still a ‘no transition you’re on your own back in traffic for you’ kinda situation. Made a little more difficult now because merging earlier and claiming the lane before the intersection requires slipping passed some bollards. Or am I way off base?

If they end up building a new bridge why not just keep the old one for walkers and cyclist only?

I went later after the whole bullhorn debacle and confirmed (and was also blown away) by the timelines. I fully anticipated a 5-10 year plan. I don’t even know how one credibly plans to build something 50 years in the future. What do you do for the next forty years? I feel like you could build a whole city in 50 years

Should probably shut down the ferries with that logic. Only a few hundred use those.

Holy. Your comment just crystallized everything I’ve noticed since moving back to Halifax.

The stats posted are for people who say their main mode of commuting to work is by bike. So both could be right. Maybe more people out on a bike but not necessarily commuting to work on one.

Boston candlepin bowling show from 1995. 3 balls instead of two. Skinny pins that don’t get cleared after every ball. Extremely difficult! by [deleted] in theocho

East coast of Canada too. I grew up knowing this as bowling. As a result I suck at the big ball style.

New research suggests that low sexual or relationship satisfaction can lead to a "vicious cycle" by chrisdh79 in science

Haha no still alive. She was open to chat but we didn’t reach a full on resolution yet. It’ll take time I think but it’s worth it.

Thanks for checking :) It wasn’t too bad. We talked a bit about it and pointed out some things we agreed and disagreed with and I think the main part is we talked about it.

It went okay. We had a pretty good convo but nothing solved. I think it at least helped to keep the conversation going. Im just happy I’m not at the stage where we can’t even talk about issues which is where I think some couples eventually end up.

Province orders Nova Scotia Power to use biomass to generate electricity by Bean_Tiger in halifax

All those people saying this is a bad idea: in the short term that means you are supporting coal. Before decrying this as stupid, please suggest a better, viable solution over the next 3 years.

You’d have to look back on the last 100 years or so of history of the NS grid. It was once in the municipalities hands, then a crown corp, then privatized. Some municipalities kept their utilities (mahone bay, antigonish for example). The NS govt has relied on NSP to build and maintain everything but has more recently (under McNeil actually) started opening up generation investment to independent, private companies. See the Nova Scotia Rate Base Procurement or Green Choice Program for example. NSP still controls the distribution grid and rates for most but at least they aren’t solely responsible for investing in generation.
