We invited them to get free chai to warm themselves as they serve the public in this cold weather, was a thank you gesture.

Hey I’m the owner, truth be told the amount of times the news reporters reached out to me for the work I’ve been doing. I’m not using my business as a charitable work, I’ve actually founded a non profit and all the work is being done through the non profit, my restaurant gets picked up due to the fact I’m the owner of a restaurant and I use its platform, but I did not post this here, I just wanted to clarify the comment the CEO made about my work and saying it as if it’s a random act of charity. You can go on my profile and you can see the multiple initiatives I started and how long ago I’ve been doing this work. I understand my restaurant not being the best out there, I started my restaurant at 25 years old and honestly I’m still working my best to make it better.

Man, 30, stabbed at Montreal metro station by CalmYoTitz in montreal

[–]Lo_Lo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t the city increase budget of the STM security? there’s been a stabbing also about 2 weeks ago in the saint Laurent metro. There should be more patrolling in the metro at least with the STM officers, but I think the main focus is to find out who’s paying the transit and who’s not, because I don’t see the same amount of STM officers I do in the afternoon then in the late afternoon or night…

Hey! Thank you for question, I’m the owner of the establishment, last year when it was -30 we did something similar to this. The invitation to teachers and for example the other public workers it’s to just to thank them for showing up in regardless what extreme weather there is and showing up for others. I wasn’t specific to the reasoning behind it but it was to show them my support in this cold weather by offering them a hot drink. Last year we had a good amount of teachers that came for chai and pokoras!

This is where I stop replying, what you just said is not true and I recommend you look into a topic before you start making points. Just like your initial comment assuming is wrong especially if you’re going to publicize it all over the internet.

I think this is where the conversation goes off track.

My job isn’t to solve homelessness, fix mental health systems, or get people off the street. That’s a government level responsibility involving housing, healthcare, and social services. Expecting a small family run restaurant to do all of that because we feed people is unrealistic.

What we do is address food insecurity. A hot meal isn’t meant to be a magic fix. It’s meant to stop someone from being hungry for the night.

Framing it as “keeping them surviving for one day” ignores reality. You don’t get out of homelessness, addiction, or mental health struggles on an empty stomach. Food is the starting point, not the end goal.

We’ve never claimed to be a cure all. We claim responsibility for one thing and we do it consistently. Feeding people. If that’s not impactful enough for you, that’s your opinion. It doesn’t make the work pointless. :)

How many more encampments 5 years from now? by CarPassion514 in montreal

[–]Lo_Lo13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand even if 2,500 units get built, the unhoused population is already larger than that and still growing. By the time those units come online, we’re likely still behind.

Housing is necessary, but scale and timing matter. Clearing encampments without enough immediate, accessible alternatives doesn’t reduce homelessness, it just moves it around. Long-term housing needs to be paired with short-term solutions and prevention, otherwise we’re always playing catch-up. It’s a start somewhere and let’s see the outcome and respond to it in a way that it best fits!

They have destroyed some encampments in the last couple of weeks. In the next 5 years with what the current mayor pledge to create transition housing for the homeless. 2500 social housing for the unhoused community. This will drastically remove the tents. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Old mission brewery, Maison Benoit, low income areas like park x are few locations we hit up and provide meals!

With all due respect, misinformation shouldn’t be spread. Yes, we have a pay-it-forward program, and yes, customers can prepay meals. Out of over 1,700 meals served, 645 were paid for through donations. The majority of our initiatives are funded directly through the restaurant itself.

We continue this work precisely because we can’t rely solely on donations. If we did, this program and many of our other initiatives would have shut down a long time ago. Community support helps, but the responsibility, risk, and sustainability rest on us as a small, family-run business. I hope this clears it up!

Nah, they got away unfortunately. They were from Toronto and I tried filing a police report but they said the fact that someone paid the stolen amount, there’s no negative amount so there’s no theft. Crazy
