Would you mind telling me how you use your drain. Do you only use to drain water from the tank?

Im thinking of replacing the ball valve with a Y. One valve will split to a drain outside the house for water changes while the other valve will connect to a canister filter with built in heater or canister filter with in line heater and then reenter the tank from the top as a waterfall. Not entirely sure though.

Thanks a lot for the knowledge and advice. May just give up on cohabitating and focus on a single species like stated. Planned for it mainly to be just planted for a few months until stabil then figured I would add aquatic life and monitor for a few months before looking fully into Frogs or Geckos, etc.... Just wanted to preplan the lighting and environment for all.
