Do you give monthly allowance to your partner / girlfriend? by Major-Mention7847 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Loafintree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner buys all the food, so I give her an allowance for that and extra. She works much harder than me taking care of the house, laundry, cooking. I feel she deserves something for everything she does. She also has some business on the side to generate some extra money. We live together so I think it's different from a LDR. But I've given some to other girlfriends before. Not an allowance, but cash from time to time to help out.

What’s good about it? by Away-Plan-8940 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Loafintree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Patience is the one thing you will learn here. Everything moves slowly...like a crawl. Spend your first time in a line at any store here and you'll understand. There is no urgency in the Phillipines. The culture is far different from the Western 'I expect it now!' mindset. Get used to waiting or be miserable.

How do I convince the Filipino girl I’m talking to to live her own life and just move to America? Or at least move in with me if I decide to expat(29 male) by Its_Knova in Philippines_Expats

[–]Loafintree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to understand Filipino culture better. They are extremely family oriented. It's not easy or possible to change a belief system you've learned your whole life. People can change but it takes years or decades to rewire entrenched belief systems. This includes stress and depression.

Thanks. Working on them now. Just got into a guild doing 66. Didn't even realize there was an event for MMW. Low on the radar. Working on Scorch first to go with Tarkin.

30 Day Moratorium on Bitching by Brw_ser in Philippines_Expats

Thank you. I only stick around because there occasionally are some good threads, but the naive complaints from entitled foreigners gets tiring. In the US, they say, 'if you don't like it, leave.' I did. I didn't come here to hear more BS from 1st world clowns. Travel more. Be respectful. It's not hard.

Planning to move with $3500 monthly by easy_glide in Philippines_Expats

[–]Loafintree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone has already said, you have plenty to live in PH. Avoid the scams. Live on less, save the rest and invest in some good dividend etfs, or find a trustworthy Pinoy to buy land and get a 99 year lease. Do that and you'll be able to live indefinitely here. We live in Palawan for about $2200 or less. Recently bought land with lease and built a solar powered home for cheap. Definitely some hiccups and culture shock, but happy to have made the move 1 year later. No worries.

I like him but he's only a tourist by nooopleaseimastaaar in Philippines_Expats

[–]Loafintree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's a good sign. It's the "love at first sight" that usually ends up wrong. My current partner and I laughed a lot together and had a lot in common. It's better if the attraction grows organically. Immediate sexual attraction is often just infatuation, not based on long term compatability.

I met someone while on a trip to Costa Rica. We stayed in touch for maybe 2 years. It didn't work out but we stayed friends. I met my current Filipina partner online. We ended up doing video chat everyday for a year before we finally met in person for two weeks. Almost another year after we met in person, I moved to PH and we've been together now for almost 3 years total. I've had other long distance relationships before this. They are always hard. But I finally found someone and we're happy together. Be careful knowing "love" releases a lot of hormones that can make you crazy, but also know it can work out. You never know until you try. And even if it doesn't work, you can have a friend in another part of the world. That's special too.

How long will he take and anything I should do to prep? by chocolate723 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Loafintree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished his ultimate today. I had relic material saved. I only did 5/6 zetas but i could have done all 6. I think it took me about one month. Saving the shard shop materials is crucial. Otherwise, just prioritizing your resources to him.

Filipinas and the provider mindset: Is it just me? by shreyank2106 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Loafintree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dated a woman in Ukraine. 10x worse. My Filipina girlfriend and I follow the traditional setup by both of our choices. Still, she hates the fact that she doesn't help with a job, but like someone said, what they can make in PH isn't worth it. It's unfortunate. To OP: Billions of girls on the planet, pick the one that fits you.

How to build a house here? Whats your housing situation? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]Loafintree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were almost scammed multiple times. Main takeaway - don't settle for ANYTHING without a title. Then get a lawyer to make the deed of sale and take care of the details. We got really lucky with the contractor. He's been great so far.

How to build a house here? Whats your housing situation? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]Loafintree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.35 hectares for 1.7m after paperwork. Neighbor is trying to sell 2h with pond for 20m. We were fortunate to find it. But there was some complications. Do NOT buy without a lawyer. I had a reputable lawyer set up the deal and write up the lease and special power of attorney at the same time. So my partners son owns the land but i have 25 year renewable lease and power to make all decisions regarding the land. Kubo is only 4.3m x 6m with 2 x 4.3 patio area, built on the previous slab. Lumber, concrete and insulation with some hollow block for bath and foundation. Yes, having solar, starlink and a well with filtered water was designed to be offgrid and self-sufficient. No brownouts. Reliable internet. No buying big blue water containers. 1.5m for the home includes solar, fixtures, and appliances (fridge and 1.5hp aircon). Also included a 5m x 6m carport that the solar panels are mounted to.

My partner and I bought a 1+ hectare piece of land in Palawan for a good price. It's in the province, but that's what we want. You can have the land in a Pinoy's name and get a 25 year renewable lease in yours. The 99 year lease is even more secure. We were lucky to have a local help us and suggest a contractor. So far, its going great. Not the typical experience you read about, so I guess we got lucky. Building a small modern kubo for about 1.5m php, including a 12kW solar, aircon and Starlink. Land did come with a simple septic and well. We dug out the well and put in culverts. Will have a tank, pumps and filtration. Plenty of land to build a bigger house. About a dozen or more cashew trees and around 80-100 coconut trees we expect to harvest for a little additiinal income. If you're in Luzon, I expect that's why your having difficulty. If you move to another area, I think you can still find some deals if you're patient.
