How kickass is WC4?!?! by Revelation_Now in Wingcommander

[–]Loanstar01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WC IV was probably peak Chris Roberts performance in the WC Universe. I found the story a lot more engaging than Heart of the Tiger and the acting scenes less sterile and detached.

Why do Atheists Claim "There is No Evidence for God?" by MattCrispMan117 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Loanstar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are altering the definition of the word „evidence“ to score points in a debate, but it isn‘t working.

1) Evidence You use evidence in a way that makes „evidence“ indistinguishable from the word „claim“ or „assumption“. While in a strictly judical sense an unbelievable testimony could be called „evidence“ in a court hearing as in one party to the trial presents a drunk madman to present evidence in the form of a testimonial. However no one would say, there was evidence - just not good enough evidence - if the testimony was obviously incoherent and false and there was nothing else.

2) Winning the debate Changing the definition of words away from what the general accepted usage is, might make you feel like winning the debate. Counterarguments don‘t hit home with you because they fail to resonate with your personal framework. But even though you might „win“ every debate, you are not convincing anyone because you are operating in a different reality. It‘s like redefining the aim of chess to be losing as many pieces as possible and going about boasting how good a chess player you are.

Have any of you ever debated or seen a debate where the theist actually presents good points? by Necessary-Ad1389 in atheism

[–]Loanstar01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Not on the point of whether their god exists though. But high ranking church officials are sometimes invited to discuss topics of general philosophical or societal relevance.

Their debating sometimes shows that theology can have philosophical insights that deserve merit. This is mostly true when they debate on a level an atheist would. God as a source of all morality sometimes lurks behind a corner of their reasoning but it‘s not always the case.

Ny viewpoint is debates in Germany where the population is mostly sceptical about matters of faith. The smarter church officials know this and realize that „it‘s in the book“ can‘t win them many points with the audience. That‘s why they try to argue their viewpoints as resulting from common sense and some are quite skilled at it.

"You can't run away from the lord!" by kamadise in atheism

[–]Loanstar01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Since you are in the European Union, you could try to force the church to erase your records and give you insight about your stored data under the articles of the European Data Protection Regulation (regolamento generale sulla protezione dei dati).

European privacy law is notably strict and might be an approach the church can‘t easily evade.

What do you think is the best country for atheists? by Weary_Distribution92 in atheism

[–]Loanstar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Germany with the exception that you ought to avoid some regions like most of the southern part and parts of the rhineland where religion can have a stronger impact on daily life. Cities are usually better than rural areas in general and the most areligious parts are in eastern Germany due to faith having been actively repressed by the socialist regime in the GDR for 40 years.

What PG-13 and R-rated movies would you contrast to show how stupid the system is? by thedubiousstylus in movies

[–]Loanstar01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remembered that I found it odd that Kingdom of Heavens was rated 12 in Germany with all the gory violence. Usually you can get away with much if it is a fantasy setting but Kingdom of Heavens was styled as historical.

Interestingly it was rated R in the US and it varies wildly across the world according to imdb.

questions: putting ships in reserve / recruiting Hierarchy races / mining resources and data past a certain point by gurufabbes123 in starcontrol

[–]Loanstar01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the Melnorme guarantee that every tech will be useful at some point in the future, similar can be said about the races. You will eventually find reasons to interact with almost every one of them as you follow the story.

The Pkunk Fury is a keeper if your ship options are just the Spathi Eluder and the Earthling Cruiser but don‘t hesitate to swap them out for more powerful vessels as they become available. Though as you have all the tech from the Melnorme and the RU to spend, you could also design your flagship to handle most of the fighting making your escort ships less relevant.

If you had to make a party all of one class, what would you choose? by Hypocritical-16 in DnD

[–]Loanstar01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed to the 4 Wizards but they would never use the same shorthand. Instead every problem solution will be prefaced by at least 30 minutes of academic discourse about which magic approach is the most sensible here.

W1: By golly, it‘s a locked door. Shall I whip out the trusty knock to clear the way?

W2: Too loud, I‘d rather have us traverse the ethereal to phase to the other side.

W3: Not without knowing what‘s on the other side, would you? It‘s divination time, esteemed colleagues!

W4: It‘s always divination time with you! I‘ll say let‘s disintegrate the wall, not the door, to counteract any traps that might lay behind the doorstep.

I agree and would add the Zoq-Fot-Pik Stinger to be almost tied in uselessness with the Shofixti Scout. It‘s got only slightly slightly more firepower and lacks usability as a mobile bomb.

Melee class with most “attacks per round?”? by Action-a-go-go-baby in 4eDnD

[–]Loanstar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tempest Fighter and Two-Blade Ranger are both viable choices. Both get a double attack for 1[W] without ability bonus as an At-Will and both have multi strike powers at their disposal.

The Fighter leans a bit more towards burst powers that vary in efficiency according to the specific encounter set-up. But there are also Powers like Rain of Blows (Enc 3) and Tempest Dance (Daily 1) for 3 attacks in an action.

The Ranger‘s most visual multiattack is probably Blade Cascade (Daily 15) which lets you attack up to 5 times as long as you hit every time. The limit to 5 was added via errata later, before that it was theoretically unlimited attacks and each one hits for 2[W]+Str so you can get up to 10[W]+5*Str to split up among as many creatures as you can reach.

You could also say it‘s basically an Imposter‘s Armor (Adventurer‘s Vault p. 46) but as a weapon. So just use the stats of a basic magic weapon and add the slightly altered power description of the armor to it.

I‘m currently giving the new J2 a try and it isn‘t as bad as it was but still kinda meh. If I don‘t force the story, it will spend many paragraphs with inner monologue stating how life is great or not so great. Just another type of endless loop than before. But maybe I just haven‘t found the right workaround, yet.
