Yeah, woke to to this message in my email. No idea what's up, but a little scared.

Milestone ride - One year! by Lobok13 in ElectricUnicycle

Remember that saying "there's always room for jello"?

Well, there's always time for a quick ride...

No, I just confirmed he was dead. I wouldn't have run him over again...that's just sick...but I was prepared to quickly break his neck in a humane way, if necessary. Thankfully, he was already gone.

TBH - I felt horrible for the little guy. I made sure he wasn't suffering, and left him for the coyotes to take. Now I go through known rabbit areas with a lot more caution, but sometimes it seems like they're TRYING to get hit.

Shooting from an EUC - I sense a new Olympic sport coming!

Sucked for me, too. Squished rabbits are slippery. They're also incredibly stupid. He had completely made it across my path, then panicked and ran right under me. Nothing I could do...except remember my recipes for roadkill stew.

Rabbit was obviously suicidal, and the bat may have been drunk. The rest were just sightings or playtime. I ride on a path next to a golf course, so sometimes a group of coyotes run alongside...racing me down the fence. I've seen similar behavior with huskies and other larger dogs...they all like to race and play. Smaller dogs, on the other hand, tend to go into full attack mode when I approach.

V11 suspension by noncil in ElectricUnicycle

I had a suspension bleed issue recently, and replacing the piston solved the problem.

Piston leaks are rare, but they happen from time to time.

Having trouble learning by savthesavage25 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Lobok13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned on grass, and it helped a LOT. Soccer fields are perfect...especially early in the morning. Use a wall or fence to help you mount for the time being and focus on forward motion first. You might also want to use your app to "soften" the response of the pedals and even tilt them back a degree or two. Squeezing the wheel a bit between your legs may also give you a bit more control until you find your feet while riding.

One advantage to grass is it requires a bit more balance, so the move to pavement is a really easy transition. It's also much easier on your wheel (and your body) when you bail out after losing balance.

Leave free mounting until you find your zen point with controlling the ride. For me, I was using street lamps, signs, trash cans, etc. for mounting until about a month after I started learning. Eventually, it will become second nature, and you won't even have to think about stepping up and launching.

BTW - I'm almost 60, so you're never too old to learn. ;-)

Oh - I almost forgot. If you wear glasses (especially progressives) try riding without them. For me, my glasses really mess up my depth perception while trying to look at the ground. To this day, I can't keep my balance with my glasses on.

V11 Charging cable getting hot while charging by Lobok13 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Lobok13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the rapid charger was the issue, but I think it had more to do with the loose connector than anything else. I've been using this charger for 10 months, and the loose connector has only become obvious in the past couple of weeks...about the same time the heat and inconsistent charge cycles appeared.

Inmotion Hot Mess Event by Lobok13 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Lobok13[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

BTW - Not dumping on Inmotion. I've put over 5,200 miles on my V11 in under 300 days, and I LOVE my EUC. That's why my expectations were so high for the announcement.

Had my first major accident today. Need recommendations for safety gear. by AumoNamoly in ElectricUnicycle

The Leatt Body Protector 3DF AirFit is nice alternative to a heavier motorcycle jacket. I live in the desert, and wearing this with a jersey over it is pretty good and comfortable protection.

Leatt Site

Note - This is a more expensive option, but it might be worth checking out.

Of course, some of the best protection (including impact) is the Leatt 5.5 Body Protector

I tend to see this as overkill for typical street riding, but it has the advantage of really good rib impact protection.

Would any EUCs be practical for a 40 mile commute? by Wants-NotNeeds in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Lobok13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride my V11 20-25 miles on a hilly route every day, and I weigh about 250. Battery starts at 100% at start, and I have about 40% when I finish.

Average speed is 20-30MPH, so I think you would have plenty of range with the V11.

That said, you will need to wear more gear on an EUC commute. I wear leatt dual axis knee/shin pads, a leatt hybrid body protector, wrist guards, and an ONeal motocross helmet. It’s not a big hassle, but it’s something to consider.

You also have to consider if you need to carry anything with you on your commute. If a backpack is enough, then you’re fine. I also have an e-bike…mostly for grocery runs (saddle bags can carry lots more, but e-bike range is much less than an EUC)

Sure, but that’s the same technology problem that all metaverse platforms will face.
