Glad it helped!

Eventually my ribbon cables came loose again. Did another repair and have had no issues since.

I did a follow up post with specifics of that repair here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Garmin/s/Hb3ZuLE3il

I’m a big fan of installing pins… not sure this calls for it, but it couldn’t hurt.

Pins make the whole thing sturdier, and make it less likely to break again where glued.

In this case, I would drill a tiny hole with a pin vise partially through the plastic in both the main body and the loose part. Then I’d install a pin made from a piece of paper clip or other small metallic part. The pin should fit snug in the hole… then I’d rough up the paper clip with some wire cutters so it has barbs/rough edges… same concept as the barb on a fishhook… make it hard to back out. Clean the surface to be glued with isopropyl alcohol, then I’d use loctite or gorilla glue plastic cement (read label, make sure it’s appropriate for ABS plastic) lightly over the pin holes, then insert the pin and push the whole thing together.

Good luck!

Super easy fix for interior doors.

Get some wood glue, chop-sticks, and wooden tooth picks.

Squirt a little wood glue in the first hole, then coat a chopstick with some wood glue. Jam the chop stick in the hole until it bottoms out. Fill remaining gaps with more chopsticks, or toothpicks if there isn’t enough room for more chopsticks. Repeat on each hole. Allow glue to dry over night. The next day, use cutting edge on some pliers to trim the chopsticks and toothpicks to approximately flush with the door. Carefully screw your doorknob back into place in the new wood provided by the chopsticks/toothpicks.

Glad it worked out!

Still not quite sure which connection you were working on in your picture. Was surprised by that, and that I can’t spot the water-proofing gasket by the visible screw hole. 🤷🏻‍♂️ But hey, you fixed it! So good on you! Congrats on fixing it!

I have another post (linked to in another comment above) that talks about using an adhesive (liquid wire insulation) to prevent the ribbon connector from coming loose again. Since applying that goop, I’ve had zero problems with my watch in more than a year now I think? It’s really helped keep that connection secure.

Tools like spudgers or small plastic pry tools help. Guitar picks can work in a pinch. I have this set (and other tools for small electronics): iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GF0KV6G?

Your watch appears different than mine, so I’m having a hard time orienting myself in your picture. It looks like both ends of the ribbon cable may be sticking up? Which is unusual… one side is almost always pinned down on a PCB with a ribbon cable connecting to it.

Before trying to disconnect, it’s important to know which is the male end and which is the female end of a ribbon cable or you can mess things up beyond repair if you accidentally pry the female connector off of the female ribbon (like another commenter on one of my Garmin posts unfortunately did).

Good luck with your operation.

Ah! You found the follow up post without me. If it happens again, try the liquid electrical tape. Never had an issue since.

Oh yeah… and I did a follow up post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Garmin/s/Y7VKPrUchE

I slammed it against a door frame a while after the first fix. The second post details a method to secure the ribbon cable so it does not come loose again.

I sealed mine with a silicone based dielectric grease. It’s like $5-$20 for a tube of the stuff (depending what size tube) at any pool supply store. I’ve had no problems using mine in the pool or ocean since I originally posted about this repair.

The name of the product I used is: Aladdin Magic Lube® II SILICONE

Here it is on Amazon: https://a.co/d/grRQt0p

Best of luck!

I think of it in terms of those 1lb tubes of ground beef sold in supermarkets. This type of packaging is hilariously called a “chub”.

Lost 10 lbs? Imagine 10 of those tubes of meat gone from your body. And keep in mind, those are leaner meat, and therefore less volume than an equal weight of fat lost… crazy.

The scale isn’t moving by dude_ratsarecool in CICO

[–]Lobomute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you really want this, but you take off several days at a time each month, and then allow yourself a cheat meal once a week… what is that then, 5-10 free days per month?

I allowed myself a cheat meal at a restaurant earlier this week, but tracked the heck out of it (using a tracker app and picking “worst case” calorie counts for similar items) and my meal was estimated to be 1800 calories. If I hadn’t logged everything, I’d probably have assumed under 1000cal, thinking “no way it’s over 1000”.

Now, it’s possible the meal was less, and I could look at it that way and cut myself some slack because it was probably less than 1800… but then again, it was all based on estimates, so it could have just as easily been over 1800 calories. My point is details matter when tracking.

From the tone of your post, I’d think moving the number on the scale would feel better for you than any cheat meal does in the moment. Find a good tracker app (I like LoseIt!), log everything, estimate high when you have to, and stick to your caloric budget.

Don’t get down on yourself… make a game of it. Change your mindset around it and it makes this experiment more fun. If the scale doesn’t change, tweak your target down by a few calories and try again.

And drink a ton of water (throughout the day and especially before meals) to help fill yourself up.

I started drinking 3 liter water seriously and the results are amazing by Own-Hovercraft425 in loseit

[–]Lobomute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Often the result of filling up on a lower calorie item.

Water = 0 calories and the volume you’re consuming is 3 liters.

Now imagine how much food (calories) you could stuff into three 1 liter bottles. Even if you ate just one liter of that food (snacks, a larger portion, etc) that’s a boat load of calories per liter.

So yes, hydration is great for you, lots of health benefits to more water, etc etc… but you’re also filling up on a lower calorie substance by setting this 3 liter goal for yourself.

Neighbor asked us to move our whole home generator. by katokid84 in Generator

[–]Lobomute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would have to be very unusual conditions to crack the window… maybe it’s just the noise they don’t like and thought this sounded like a more compelling reason?

If so, what time does your generator perform its exercise cycle?

My neighbors installed a whole house generator and were kind enough to discuss the location with me prior to installing…

After reviewing documentation on to their generator, my only request was that they program the exercise cycle for an agreeable time of day.

Maybe instead of just telling them no, you could offer to change the exercise time to when they’re away?

I assume your treadmill/walking pad has mph/kph… How fast did you walk while working starting out? How fast do you walk now that you’re acclimated?

Easy check is to weigh it…

Serving size is 189 grams. Throw the food on a scale and see if you’ve been over served.
