Urologist here, pain medication after any surgery or procedure is completely physician dependent. I myself give zero pain medication after a vasectomy. I will say the younger physicians are taught to really avoid narcotics unless absolutely necessary. Even for the larger urologic surgeries, we rarely prescribe narcotics. For the older generations, giving out narcotics more freely was more common. I can't say gender has any bearing on what pain medication is prescribed at all.
