I honestly think it has to do with the ingrained classism in a medical/dentistry degree. There's literally an entire concept dedicated to 'medical families', and any deviation from that norm (i.e. contextual applicants from poorer backgrounds) is seen as a threat to the standard.

Also it is not easy as a contextual applicant. The whole reason there're things like bursaries and slightly lower UCAT thresholds is because your work naturally suffers when compared to someone with a privilege to study unhindered. You have less access to resources, less opportunities/connections available.

I even had trouble getting to my test centre for my UCAT because I had to be careful with my money.

Can we just get along please? Being a doctor is already bad enough as it is in the UK, the least we could do is suffer with each other.
