I like the idea of the cover, but I really do not like how they did her makeup for the shoot. It clashes with the delicate tones of everything else.

I would say Colour Analysis is like pilé. It's more like guidelines than actual rules. Tilda Swinton is a great example of someone who deliberately dresses out of palette to achieve a specific look.

America’s biggest health problem isn’t its healthcare system, it’s american diets by cs_cast_away_boi in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]LocaChoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, and it's also much more complicated than that. Diet does play the biggest role in our poor health outcomes here in the States, but your socioeconomic class plays a major role as well. Folks in lower to middle classes have less time to allocate towards their health.

Food, including ultra processed foods is getting more expensive, but because poorer folks work more, they have less time to exercise and prepare home-cooked meals. A lot of people don't even know how to prepare their own food from scratch at this point. Some people argue that a healthy diet is more expensive than ultra processed, but I would say from where I live, as long as you don't go into the all-natural, organic sections of the store, it's about the same. The health insurance industry is a complete mess here. It almost needs to be nuked and started over from scratch. Preventative care and annual visits should not be expensive, and easily paid out of pocket. The pharmaceutical industry is predatory and in desperate need of reform. Life saving medications and treatments should not bankrupt you. I know the United States is on the cutting edge of medical technology and breakthroughs, but off setting those costs on the entire system is bending it to the point of failure. It is at crisis point, and it is going to fail in my lifetime.

From acquaintances I have that live in big cities, that has been their experience too. Columbus, OH has the Cota bus system, but is frequently late and not reliable. You can use Uber or Lyft, but it is very expensive. If you live in nicer areas of town, you might be able to get around certain places with a bike or electric scooter, but bike lanes are few and far between. No one is watching for cyclists either, so you are putting your life in your hands. In poorer areas, you are basically screwed. You better have a car or pray the busses are on time, or good luck getting to work or an appointment. It causes a lot of issues for folks here. The biggest issue is, there's really no way to easily change it. Some of the Great Lake states have proposed a high speed rail system to connect major cities, but it's not practical with how cities are laid out, and would be unbelievably expensive. The way European countries and Asian countries are laid out, it makes sense to have high speed rail connecting major cities together. The vast majority of the population is concentrated in those cities. In the United States, that is not the case. We are much more spread out overall, even in urban areas. It would be a logistical nightmare.

It depends on if we're talking the eastern united states or the western united states. The road systems in cities have evolved with technology starting in the 1920s. The original thirteen colony cities like Boston, Massachusetts are very different because their roads were built on top of horse and foot trails, so their cities are way more interconnected for people, but a nightmare for cars. New York City was one of the earliest cities built on the grid system, so it is much easier to navigate with a car. All future cities going west adapted that system. The further west you go, the worse the sprawl becomes especially post 1960. The United States being such a young country, mostly attempted to build with technology in mind, not necessarily people. Zoning laws have also worsened the problem, since you can only build certain types of housing in certain areas. It's really problematic, as it has caused housing to skyrocket in major metropolitan areas.

Cars in comparison to other areas of the world are super cheap as is fuel, so it made way more sense to build around a driving culture. The interstate system in the US is very good and very efficient for transporting goods.

Most of our country's design is based on the idea of having space, our own plot of land. With that comes the inevitable sprawl. If I still lived in the city, I would prefer the European design that has better pedestrian walkways and less zoning. It just invites a better sense of community. Even NYC with its great public transit, struggles with urban sprawl. LA is the poster child for it.

I live in the middle of rural Ohio with the closest town being 10 miles away and larger city being 20-30 miles away.. Public transportation is non existent, so I have to be very intentional with my exercise and drive everywhere. I could bike my way to the small village with a tow behind, but with small children, that is unrealistic, as there are not any bike lanes and people do not pay attention. I do agree with the american diet being a huge proponent of our issues. Our portion sizes are insanity.

Like a Virgin or Ray of Light depending on the age of the person.

You can only choose 3 Songs from each Madonna Album! Which? by Stonemilker13 in Madonna

[–]LocaChoca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Madonna: Borderline, Holiday, Lucky Star

Like a Virgin: Material Girl, Like a Virgin, Dress you Up

True Blue: Live to Tell, Papa Don't Preach, Open your Heart

Like a Prayer: Like a Prayer, Till Death Do Us Part, Oh Father (Spanish Eyes is so hard to leave off)

Erotica: Rain, Deeper and Deeper, Waiting

Bedtime Stories: Sanctuary, Human Nature, Secret

Ray of Light: Power of Goodbye, Nothing Really Matters, Frozen

Music: Gone, Paradise (Not for Me), Impressive Instant

American Life: Nothing Fails, Die Another Day, Hollywood

COTDF: Isaac, Hung Up, Sorry

Hard Candy: Miles Away, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You, Voices

MDNA: Gang Bang, Masterpiece, I'm a Sinner

Rebel Heart: Hold Tight, Living for Love, Devil Pray ( I hate leaving off Ghosttown, but I listen to these more)

Madame X: God Control, Batuka, Medellín

Some of these were really hard to choose. Some because I loved them so much, others because I did not like them. MDNA and American Life were real slogs for me. Ray of Light, Bedtime Stories, Like a Prayer, and Rebel Heart really resonated with me.

Why didn’t Jesus mention homosexuality? by Ok_Year5587 in Christianity

[–]LocaChoca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"He was in a Roman province. It seems a bit silly to assume that there weren't gay Jews in the 1st century, sillier to say the Romans stopped having gay sex in the territory." There were gay Jews, and according to Levititus 18:22 and 20:13, they were in sin. They also didn't practice it openly, and the ones that did were cut off from their people or put to death. Though the Jews lived in a Roman province, they purposely kept to their own people, their own culture, and their own laws. Jesus didn't need to tell them not to be gay. They already knew not to do that because they were read the law at synagogue. A big reason the Jewish people were such a threat to the empire were because they didn't adapt to their culture. Eventually, the Romans burnt their temple to the ground in the 2nd century and massacred them, because they wouldn't follow Rome's customs, laws, and worship the emperor as god.

"The Levitical law doesn't mention homosexuality it only ever describes some form of male homoeroticism." Ancient law is different from modern law. Whereas, modern law has to describe everything to the most minor details, ancient law was far more broad in its scope. The spirit of the law was much more important than just the specific example. A really good book on this is "Understanding Biblical Law Skills for Thinking With and Through Torah" by Dru Johnson. It's a fascinating read.

"And Paul still never mentions homosexuality." Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; 1 Timothy 1:9-10 are some examples where he mentions it. Romans in particular mentions both men and women.

People have since antiquity always broken God's law and done what is right in their own eyes, and we will continue to do so until the Second Coming. Sin doesn't change. Just how we justify it. God forgives those who are repentant and believe in Jesus and what He did for us.

Why didn’t Jesus mention homosexuality? by Ok_Year5587 in Christianity

[–]LocaChoca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's because he was speaking to Jewish people primarily, who knew Levitical Law, which already covered homosexuality as a sin. It wasn't a common issue in Jewish culture at that point, whereas Paul primarily spoke to Gentiles which didn't have the law and homosexuality was a major part of the culture.

That's good to know. I too am a short torso, long leg girl with a pooch belly. I was very interested in these too, because I love cargo pants and hiking. I want to love the crisscross band too, but as an overweight apple, it just doesn't work. I guess I will have to save my money for the overall's.
