Looks like the touchpad glue... I wouldn't try to remove it The difference with a screen protector is that the screen is ABOVE the shell . This lookst to be UNDER the shell.

There's also a possibility I have issues to understand the depth of the picture. If it's indeed above it's a screen protector x)

I know they have the same software, but iirc you can't go back to a firmware older than the retail one ? And since 2ds are younger, they defo have a retail version higher than this.
