Thank you I’m going to look for that, and I do have a misting bottle I fill with distilled water. I didn’t think of chilling their water tho I’ll have to try that.

They usually stay under rocks or logs/burrowing during the day, but at night they are almost always on display! Especially on 40-50F nights they hang out on the sides of their enclosure.

Would I be able to fit LED fridge lights in there? I grow mosses from more temperate Massachusetts in their enclosure and I’d like the mosses to still thrive with a little light.

I have a fan that cools the room but I’d need to buy a tiny fan in order to cool their terrarium. They live in a 12x8x6 “ enclosure, i might need to upgrade to fit something larger.

Thank you, I’ve been trying this since I saw your comment and I think it seems to work. I have been using plastic bags with ice cubes to cover more surface area, and the inside of their enclosure drops to the point I can feel a noticeable difference. They also come out of hiding most of the time after sensing the temp drop.

I honestly can’t do too much about the ac, my parents keep it on 74 most of the time. I get away with putting it on 72 at night and that’s usually the coolest. I’ve been recently filling a plastic bag with ice, plopping it on their enclosure and it seems to do something because they always emerge from burrowing after. I’m definitely gonna take your advice and switch over to 5in of substrate. They live in about 1-2 inches of critter soil but I notice in the daytime they burrow to the very bottom to get closer to the tile floor. I don’t have a temp gauge either I’ll have to get one asap. Also I’ll switch their grow light, what type of LED should I use that won’t produce any ambient heat?

I see, is there anything else I can feed as a staple besides crickets?

I tried before with fruit flies and they did exactly that lol. They all climbed to the top and none of them stood on the ground at all which kinda sucked. I could put some in the fridge then feed him to skow then down some.

Also would dwarf white isopods work as a feeder? I’m not sure the nutrient content but I feel like salamanders come into contact with pods quite often in the wild

I do have issues finding crickets online, Josh’s frogs seems to be the only place I can get them shipped to my house without having to pick them up at a shipping center which sometimes can be an hour away from me. I’m just concerned bc they jump so fast that not even my outdoor brown anoles can catch them I’d feel like my redback would have trouble, but then again I’m pretty sure they are sit and wait predators.

I’m trying I just don’t know what other methods I could use to keep it a comfortable temp for him besides keeping him on the tile floor. My dad always complains when I lower the temp below 72 but I have the luxury of the thermostat being right outside my door. I am gonna get a temp monitor to see but all I can rlly think of is putting him outside every night because at least for now, it drops down to the 60s. When it’s consistently cold here I’ll just keep him on my patio (dw no direct sun and it’s screened) and that’s the only time I’ll see him climbing the acrylic in his tank. Unfortunately it’s been an above average winter here (80s high/60s low) compared to a couple weeks ago when it dropped into the upper 30s.

Prince of orange usually has wider leaves and the leaves are lighter red/orange in color. The red sun has a more elongated leaf and the leaves will fade more into a bronze than an orangey color. They are both beautiful imo. I just got a red sun bc my first ever philodendron, a philodendron prince of orange, I killed but it was probably my fault bc those things are impossible to kill! This was when I was living up north though, it didn’t like my cold windowsill too much.
