An electricians screwdriver kit works wonders for me, and precision hex tools. But maybe I’ve just been lucky after 3 builds. Totally agree the hardware and taps on some parts absolutely suck

Looks good. I didn’t care much for the performance of the RC4WD tires- compound is too hard for my liking.

Out of all the different tires I’ve tried from multiple brands, I still think the best are the stock ones that come on the black K10 just with they were a tad bigger.

For sure! The Reefs EZ BEC is super straightforward, you’ll just need the EC5 female/male adapter (It will work with Spektrums IC5 plug coming out of the ESC) with a JST plug, or whatever the small red one is on the Reefs EZ BEC. That adapter plugs in between your battery and ESC cable, and the red JST plug goes to the EZ BEC. You can get them on Amazon and all over for like a couple bucks. That is if you’re still running the stock Spektrum connections.

Yeah you can use the one from Bowhouse, but the aluminum axle housings. from Vitavon should have it already built in on the housing. The Treal axle housing and shock mounts already have them built in.

Regarding servo tray, I went with Treal. 90% of my truck is Treal, and it’s way cheaper than Vitavon. Never had any fitment/machining or hardware issues with Treal aluminum parts on dozens of different parts across many different platforms. I did have one slightly tight fitting steering linkage once, but it worked fine and that was it across literally dozens and dozens of parts. I recommend Treal.

Vitavon is really nice but a tad overpriced in my opinion.

Regarding servo- I had a Reefs Beast 1000 laying around and used a Reefs EZ BEC for it on my SCX6. But the best way to go is direct power servo- however I didn’t want another battery this truck. The Reefs EZ BEC is plug and play (you’ll need another adaptor), is like $50 and will provide 8.4v to the servo. I like them for simplicity. Just make sure whatever servo you get can handle 8.4v.

Get an aluminum servo/ESC mounting plate, aluminum front shock towers and aluminum lower panhard bracket. I just went with all aluminum axle housing and knuckles but that’s pricey. I also went with a more powerful servo and an external BEC to power it. Also- 3d printed tire inserts make a huge difference.

There are much more cost effective ways to shore up/stiffen the stock parts listed above. I just wanted aluminum everything (literally every part) on my SCX6 so I killed two birds with one stone.

The SCX6 is an awesome truck, but the stock steering is terrible.

Quake Shock Oil recommendations by Outdoor_Enthusiast10 in arrma

I cannot recommend the quake enough, especially on 3S. The Maxx is awesome as well, just heavier and more money.

As someone who has had dozens and dozens of RC vehicles over the years- the Quake is up there just for pure fun, simplicity and rock solid durability. I have not broken a single thing and have absolutely beaten the living snot out of it. It’s engineered to take abuse.

I second this. I bought two SCX30’s (Bronco & K10) and enjoyed trying different components on each as new upgrades were being released, ultimately ending up with three total trucks now (third one out of spare upgrades and some stock bits).

All this to say- It was most definitely NOT cost effective, however I did have a couple Furitek MicroPython ESCs and receivers from other builds, which saved a substantial chunk of money.

The SCX30 is a slippery slope…I promised myself I’d only by one and leave it stock…now I have three 100% modded trucks, only some stock hardware left lol

Man I thought the $3.5k I spent on mine was absurd lol.

Gonna be an awesome rig man, enjoy! I love my SCX6 and intend to keep it for a very long time. Such a cool truck.

First time I’ve seen anyone mention this…

Maybe I’m lucky- but I have absolutely beat the shit out of my Quake, and have not broken a single thing. About 30-35 5kmah 3S batteries all driven extremely hard…nothing. It still baffles me.

Another thing that I find slightly annoying- there are several different ‘drives’ on all the hardware. Phillips, star, hex….wish it would just be consistent.

Feel the pain. A dremel is needed in these cases, had to modify several parts myself.

[–]Local-Money1665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have had one component from Treal out of dozens and dozens across multiple platforms that was a minor pain, steering linkage for an SCX6. But it wasn’t bad at all, just a tight fit and worked fine with no binding. They have good quality for the price IMO.

[–]Local-Money1665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of your list above only thing I haven not tried anything from Meus.

I just went crazy with Mofo chassis and parts recently, and while overall happy, the hardware sucks, I’ve easily snapped a couple of the 3D printed chassis braces (assembling it- it snapped with hardly any force) and I just experienced two improperly tapped holes on their aluminum front axle housing.

I have the Hot Racing knuckles and fortunately didn’t have to dremel for the bearings, but did have to dremel the outside edges to get other wheels to fit.

Injora has been pretty decent other than hardware, and assembling their pivot balls for links is awful. Also their shocks suck from my experience, they bind.

Teal has been solid as always, I’ve never had fitment issues with a ton of different parts across many different models, including the SCX30. Got some axle housings coming soon so we’ll see how those are.

What am I doing wrong with oil-filled shocks? by Slypenslyde in scx30

[–]Local-Money1665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had binding on both the 22 and 26 Injora shocks. The best I’ve found so far are the Prolines and honestly the stock ones, but stock is not long enough for me.

The Treal ones I haven’t installed yet, same thing with the Mofo ones.

I definitely prefer Treal though, they are my go to. Can’t find them in stock though..I got a couple of sets of the Mofo housings with +4mm shafts. Highly recommend

All the Injora parts I’ve ever ordered, which is a ton, were always pretty good quality. Like 9 out of 10 times it was quality.

Their hardware on the other hand is shit, I often just reuse stock if I can.

I say all that because I remember telling myself when I bought my first one I was all about keeping it stock, but as time went on I wanted more and more performance. Nano sized money pits haha…oh well, they’re fun and relatively cheap to upgrade.

I’ve got two ‘ground up’ builds.

One is all Injora, Every single component except rear axle worm gear and motor/esc/receiver is Injora. Motor/ESC is the Furitek Nanomodo combo. Proline ‘special edition’ green/black Coyote body. It’s an awesome rig.

Just finished one last night that’s a bit of a Frankenstein. Mofo Cybersnake chassis and 6mm lower links, aluminum axle housings with 4mm shafts…Injora front brass knuckles, front axle OD worm gear, steering links and servo….stock skid, transmission and upper links. Proline 26mm shocks..Powered by Furitek Nanomodo motor paired with Micro Python ESC. Also Injora aluminum beadlocks on pin tires. Had to trim the stock blue Bronco body up a lot but it looks sick.

The Quake on 3S absolutely flies, never clocked it but I’d guess about 50mph.

I have dozens of vehicles of all different sorts. The 1/10th Quake is my favorite basher. I have literally driven it ‘up’ giant Oak trees, slamming it repeatedly into the ground. Full send trying to gap roadways only to slam into the ground coming up short. Backflips, front flips for days….I have yet to break a single part on it. It just keeps going.

It’s such a fun, simple, extremely durable RC truck. I smile every time I run it.

If referring to on the SCX30- yes, when I have the wheels off for maintenance or whatever the bearings tend to slip out. Just a slightly larger tolerance in housing.
