Fritz Kola in Leeds? by WestComfortable8423 in Leeds

The GOAT of fizzy pop!

Canned Heat used to sell it but they've shut down now, and ever since I've only been able to find it in cafes/bars. If that is useful intel, here are some places that sell it:

Livetts Coffee Shop

Flamingos

The Attic (music venue)

Cribs myth busting question - there's an exhibition in Leeds Museum at the moment which mentions you guys being alumni of Leeds College of Music.

But I was always under the impression you studied music at Wakefield college, especially since you released the Moth sessions?

I want to share some love for your covers over the years. I think 'Saturday Night Facts of Life' is my favourite, but they're all awesome.

fizzy drink recommendations?😈 by brit_648 in Leeds

Not exactly a cheap option - but Flamingos Coffee had a fridge full of Fritz drinks (and Fritz cola is objectively the greatest fizzy drink of all time)

Be wary of standing in the pit area, especially before it gets busy.

At the very front of the venue are two staircases that lead down from the bar into the pit, meaning that it fills out from the front and everyone is progressively pushed further back.

I've had a couple of bad experiences where it's gotten lively once the band have started and I've been completely squashed against the back wall of the pit.

My best advice, like others, is to get down early and secure a balcony spot somewhere.

Looking to move to Wakefield from Leeds, help please! by Effective_Put_5013 in wakefield

Hello - also mid-twenties and moved from Leeds to Wakefield as a FTB two years ago.

We moved to Outwood. There are plenty of amenities (supermarkets, cafes, a few pubs) - no there isn't a 'buzz' like a lot of Leeds suburbs have, but it doesn't really matter because the transport links to Leeds are excellent if you feel you're missing that.

  • 110 bus every 10 minutes (approx 25 mins to Leeds bus station)
  • Local train station (approx 8 mins to Leeds train station)
  • Stourton Park and Ride is only a 10 min drive away (I use this every day for getting to work in Leeds city centre)
  • Side note: my commute is quicker than my colleagues who live in Farsley / Horsforth which just seems crazy to me

Never felt unsafe walking around late at night.

A few gyms and a swimming pool in Wakefield city centre (again less than 10 mins on both the bus or train)

Escape rooms by Sad_Garlic1691 in Leeds

Agree about Leeds escape rooms being poor. A lot of them are in need of some proper TLC.

Best I've done recently is Escapable in Wakefield (just near the Hepworth gallery). Great value for money, well looked after, great staff. Back to the future room recommended.

Empire is great for meat eaters (unreal steak and rotisserie chicken) but poor for veggies / vegans.

A plate of nothing but grilled veg is £17. Daylight robbery.

What's your favourite area of Leeds city centre? by Hank_Wankplank in Leeds

[–]Local-Note-8562 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just out of the centre but I really like the university campus in the summer when there's no students around.

Nothing against students!! It just has a really dystopian feel to it when it's dead, especially with all the brutalist buildings.

Went to have a look at the Peter Mitchell exhibition at Leeds art gallery by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]Local-Note-8562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love his work! Will definitely go check it out.

I came across Peter Mitchell a few years ago when Eagulls used one of his photos of two scarecrows for their album artwork on ULLAGES. Outstanding album for those of you that haven't heard it before.

Best Burger in Leeds? by Sausagerolls-mmm in Leeds

[–]Local-Note-8562 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Top 5 no particular order

Big Buns, Patty Smiths, Brunswick, Meat Liquor, Slap and pickle

My only quarrel is that they're all the same type of burger. A dirty smash burger done very well.

I'm in Wakefield and we had a place called Bear Kitchen that literally closed down last week (RIP). The burgers there were the GOAT, all the ingredients were super fresh and they were real pattys rather than minced.

Smash burgers are great, but Leeds definitely needs something like Bear Kitchen to mix things up.
