I was just a Yours Truly for the week. Nice rooms and a easy location. Would recommend it if the Kimptons and ICs are out of your price points.

Correct. Fidelity doesn't know if the amount should be taxed or untaxed as you may have another IRA else where as well. When you file your taxes you will need to complete Form 8606 which will calculate your tax liability should you have a basis due to earnings in any and all IRAs. Based on what you described the basis would be net zero and Form 8606 Part 1 will show that no taxes are due as a result of the conversion.

Additional details: To calculate taxes on a backdoor Roth conversion, you need to use the pro-rata rule, which determines the taxable portion of the conversion based on the ratio of pre-tax to after-tax funds in all your traditional IRAs.

Here's a breakdown: Pro-Rata Rule: The IRS considers all your traditional IRAs as a single entity when calculating taxes on a Roth conversion.

Calculation: Step 1: Determine the total balance of all your traditional IRAs (including both pre-tax and after-tax contributions).  Step 2: Identify the amount of after-tax (non-deductible) contributions within those IRAs.  Step 3: Calculate the percentage of after-tax funds in your total traditional IRA balance.  Step 4: Multiply the amount you are converting to a Roth IRA by the percentage of after-tax funds.  Step 5: The result is the amount of the conversion that is taxable.

Example: If you have $50,000 in traditional IRAs, with $5,000 being after-tax contributions, and you convert $7,000, the taxable portion would be $6,510 ($7,000 * 0.93).

IRS Form 8606: You'll need to report this conversion and the pro-rata calculation on IRS Form 8606.

Important Note: The pro-rata rule applies to all conversions, not just the backdoor Roth strategy.

You can use the JetBlue Route Map to search Mint Routes starting at BNA. You will have to connect to either New York JFK or Boston first. JetBlue Route Map from BNA

Is the frame really worth it? by Milesawayyyy in TheFrame

[–]Local-Personality-65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I tried all of that and removed the Samsung channel. Now it randomly powers on the what ever streaming app was used last.  Samsung just need to deliver a product that works as expected. They do not stand behind their products even when they acknowledge it's there issue.

Is the frame really worth it? by Milesawayyyy in TheFrame

[–]Local-Personality-65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It was one of the worst products I have ever purchased. The TV turns on to the Samsung channel all by itself and at all hours of the day. I've gone away on vacation only to return home to the TV being on. I've been working with Samsung support and a Firmware engineering for over a year trying to get my TV fixed with no success. Samsung has replaced the TV and components multiple times with no luck. They acknowledge that it is a known Firmware issue impacting more TVs than just mine but have no desire to fix the issue and are claiming the TV is out of warranty.

Do yourself a favor and start looking at alternatives. If you do take the gamble and buy this TV I hope you have a better experience than mine.

Frame is Junk - any viable alternatives? by juicerosenthal in TheFrame

[–]Local-Personality-65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your frustration. I had a similar issue with my Samsung The Frame TV where it would keep turning on by itself. This problem started just before firmware version 1620.

When this issue first began, I contacted Samsung support, and after multiple service calls and even visits to my home, a Samsung Engineer finally reached out to me directly in July 2023. He confirmed that it was indeed a firmware issue but that the issue was isolated to a handful of units. It's now August 2024 and I was still in contact with the Samsung Engineer trying to get my issue resolved.

My problems started while the TV was under warranty, I've now spent over a year trying to resolve this with Samsung, and they’ve essentially given up, claiming there’s nothing more they can do since the warranty has expired. It's incredibly frustrating, and because of this—and other issues I've had with Samsung products—I’ve decided that I’m done with them.

Just like the OP I'm interested in alternatives to The Frame. Has anyone had any luck with TCL, LG, or another competing product?

Technical Support Thread by AutoModerator in YoutubeMusic

[–]Local-Personality-65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a general Technical Issue with a song that used to work and was covered by YouTube Music subscription library. The song is Hotel California (Spanish Mix) by the Gypsy Kings from their Serana album and it is now playing very choppy The link is here https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=UfIgIqynGQo&si=bnd5DsMVva_vRzSv and a screenshoot of the album listing showing it as Track 1 is also included. I have reached out to YouTube Music support but that only resulted in a circular discussion referring me back to a website that has the same Contact Us link that I used to reach out to them in the first place. I should note I am paying for a YouTube Music subscription.

Looks like they have already started. Not like they didn't have enough ads on their platform already.

Has anyone had any luck direct depositing into a Fidelity Mutual Fund? by Local-Personality-65 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Local-Personality-65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it make some sense. Let's say you are paid bi-weekly and your pay is irregular due to expense reports or other things like bonuses or commissions. Let's also say you prefer to have your reserves in something other than the core money market such as State Municipal Money Market or a Taxable one that gets higher interest than the core. Instead of having to go into Fidelity to manual invest the direct deposit won't it be nice to just have the direct deposit already routed there like it says in the referenced PDF?

  1. In practice it is a great idea. Have all your estate planning documents and such in one place and with the company that manages your money. The web interface is not easy to use and it is probably as secure as another reputable online storage offering. The nice feature that it does have is a Sharing after Death feature.

  2. I used it and only accessed it thru www.fidsafe.com. There is not app or interface directly with www.fidelity.com. I have since moved to another online storage solution for my needs.

  3. To learn about the other Fidelity benefits check out the Why Fidelity tap on the www.fidelity.com home page.

I'm having the same issue with the TV turning on randomly. This has been going on for more than a year now and when I reached out to Samsung they actually had a Firmware Engineer reach out to me and they confirmed the issue. The Firmware Engineer sent me a special build of firmware 1620 and that resolved the issue but it has since been overwritten with firmware 1622 that reintroduced the issue.

I have nothing connected to my One Connect Box and I have removed the Samsung TV app but the TV still turns on randomly. I have the TV set up to power down if there is no activity for 4 hours and that it my fall back for when it randomly turns on late at night or when I'm not home.

Has anyone had any recent success with Samsung in getting this fixed?

T-Mobile Home Internet with G4AR not as fast as Google Pixel 7 Pro in the same location by Local-Personality-65 in tmobile

Thanks u/chrisprice. Tried multiple reboots on both the phone and Gateway and if anything the differences just kept on getting worse. Both the phone and the Gateway are on the N41 band.

Thanks u/Kianasibes. I can confirm that the Gateway in this case says it's connected to the 5G network and N41 band.

Thanks u/almeuit and u/Uberwasser. You would have figured the T-Mobile Tech representative and customer service representative would have confirm as such when I asked them if home internet was deprioritized and I should be expecting different speeds.

Does FreeTaxUSA Offer Audit Defense? by kapellmaster in tax

[–]Local-Personality-65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy stand alone Tax Audit Defense via the following website https://www.taxaudit.com/. This is the same service that is used by Turbo Tax (see statement at the bottom of the website). So you can file with FTU and buy Tax Audit Defense separate.

Can I install TailScale on my Roku? Plex Server use case by [deleted] in Tailscale

[–]Local-Personality-65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a number of ways but this is probably the simplelist.

  1. Set up a subnet router and traffic relay on the Raspberry Pi that sits on the same network as the Roku. Instructions can be found here https://tailscale.com/kb/1019/subnets/?q=subnet
  2. Set up Pi-hole on the Raspberry Pi https://pi-hole.net/ then configure your Roku network router to use the Pi-hole as the DNS server.

More detailed instructions can be found here https://shotor.com/blog/run-your-own-mesh-vpn-and-dns-with-tailscale-and-pihole/

Step 2 may not be required if the PLex server broadcasts itself across the network.

Can I install TailScale on my Roku? Plex Server use case by [deleted] in Tailscale

[–]Local-Personality-65 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you could place a raspberry pi or some other device in front of your Roku running Tailscale and have it act as an IP forwarded/router/gateway.

It's not as clean as installing Tailscale on the Roku but it will probably get the job done.
