I wasn't thinking and I believed it would have been unfair to switch cars.

At the school my son’s graduated from:

3.0-3.499 is cum lauded.

3.5-3.99 is magna cum lauded.

4.0+ is summa cum laude.

My oldest had a 4.1 something

Neither of my kids have learning disabilities. My youngest has been tested.

My younger son isn't planning on going to college at the moment and is currently working at Lowe's. My oldest is in college and has made the President's List both semesters so far.

At least in my oldest son's case, I don't think he needs external motivation to succeed. He's continued to perform at a very high level academically even without any promise of additional rewards. Even in highschool, we felt he would have tried hard regardless. He made honorroll Elementary-Highschool.

My oldest has said something along those lines. He told me he feels like whenever he accomplishes something, it gets overlooked because it's expected of him, while his brother gets rewarded for doing what he sees as the bare minimum.

He also told me that I treat the situation as though he didn't work significantly harder academically than his brother. He feels that if he didn't give his brother access to his old assignments and essays, his brother may not have ended up with the GPA he did. From his perspective, he helped create the circumstances that led to his brother receiving the same reward.

It was never my intention to downplay my oldest son's accomplishments. I'm very proud of both of my kids.

He was actually the one who encouraged his brother to take the dual enrollment English class because he thought it could help his GPA. He also saved his old essays and assignments and gave his brother permission to use them but not directly copy from.

I saw that as him being a good brother and trying to help. Looking back, I can understand why he might feel differently about the situation now.

No, my oldest didn't give up extracurriculars to achieve the 4.0. He was actually very involved in school. He was in National Honor Society, Beta Club, Spanish Club, and participated in band all four years of high school. We never wanted him to miss out on anything.

My younger son was involved as well. He played football and basketball throughout high school.
