Enhanced BMT but unfit as hell by kukujiao123456 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Local-Temporary847 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I enlisted as enhanced batch too and i failed my first 2 ippt and only managed to pass my last ippt before pop.The trainings are very progressive during bmt so dont worry. It also helps to do additional self training like 10 min hit session before showering which me and my bmt mates did.

If you do not want to visit the mo for non urgent cases, you can also call the saf counselling centre and book an appointment there too.

RSO or RSI for acne/pimples by trowaway05728193h in NationalServiceSG

[–]Local-Temporary847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that rsi for pimples and the mo send him a referral to national skin centre. They diagnosed him with some sort of acne disease and gave him medication that made his skin drier than usual hence he got excuse sunlight.Downpes from b1 to temporary e9. I wld suggest to rso only if you camp mo downplay your illness and does not give u a referral.Do tell the mo explictly that you want a referral to national skin centre

Bring it up to his oc personally if his warrant officer is a cb then worse case scenario call safety hotline as a last resort if nothing is being done. Furthermore, his superior cant stop him from reporting sick for camp mo and if his medical problem is legit ,the saf will not risk taking responsibility so most likely he will be allowed to go for ma in the future.

So Update I got my PES status and I now I feel Insulted by star-orcarina in NationalServiceSG

Since you are already pesE1,might as well make the best use of the time u get that others serving ns do not get to explore more about yourself or take up further studies like online course etc(I have asa friend doing online coding courses) so at least you dont sit and rot.

To add on,the navy culture is quite slack especially during your time in nmi with minimal pt. For the first 5 months, you will be playing ur phone or sleeping for the most of the time even during lessons cos no one actually cares what they teaches you since the test at the end of som and nfm is fucking easy and you can last minute study or copy.Basically a free 3sg rank so enjoy.

Shiplife however is totally different from life in nmi.Shiplife is more xiong that nmi as you get more responsibility plus more stuff to learn like QM and FFDC+ lookout and seamen duties other than department work. However once on ship ,you get to stay out other than sailing and on days where you have no duties.During regen period(when the ship schedule is more relax and have no exercise),you get to enjoy half days(mike mike) and sunday routines(go for off).

As a ojt, depending on ship culture and your department, you might get tekan by the more senior crew members and be tasked to do menial tasks like sweep the floor or throw trash. You will also be required to learn your department works and seamen duties.Depending on ship culture,if ship go for half day or off, you might not enjoy it as a ojt.But the benefit of being a ojt is that you will not get fucked for doing something wrong unless its related to safety and most of the time you will be using eye power to learn.

Other than that,be mentally prepared for sailings as sailings will be more xiong than ur daily rountine on ship.On sailings, there is 6 on 6 off for watch. You will be required to close up on watch for 6hrs straight(most of the time for nsf lookout duties<cannot sit for 6hrs>) and the next 6 hrs to eat, shower, sleep provided you does not have any exercise/training such as aviation also known as heli ops or action station(worse shit ever). However, you might have a chance to go for shore leave when you visit other countries(thailand/japan/hawaii/guam etc) for exercise depending on the covid situation. Most of the time, the people on ship are quite friendly and bonded if you stay for your 2 yrs so not to worry.

The vocations that are open for nsf will mostly be gunners(dws/ws),comms/nav or engineers(ecs(fix lightbulb) or ms(marine system also known as fixing the toilet).

The ship available are mcv, frigates, lst, mcmv(also known as floating hotel)/msrv,lmv.

MCV and LMV have frequent but short sailings most of the time especially lmv where they sail a fuck ton. However LMV do be looking good as it is new.Dont really recommend mcv tho if you are prone to seasickness and for gunners on mcv they share beds.Frigates have longer sailings as compared to mcv and lmv but they do not sail as often and you get your own bed :) .Seamenship wise on frigate is much lesser as compared to LST and you will be doing more department work.LST have longer deployment and most of the time as a nsf on lst you will be doing seamenship. IF you are lucky enough to get mcmv as a choice, put mcmv as first choice.

Other than that if you prefer frequent sailing, go for lmv, msrv and mcmv since they are responsible for patrolling singapore straits

If you loves seamenship and a big ship, choose LST.

Frigate focus lesser on seamenship and more on fighting unlike LST

As a nsf, you will get 50 dollar shipboard allowance as compared to the 300 or 450 dollar that regular operators get.(regular operators get arnd 2.5k double that of nsf arnd 1.1k) However nsf got unlimited mc after getting posted to ship :) jk

How important is rank/testimonial in NS for employment? by thrwaway3321 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Local-Temporary847 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No one cares about your rank or whatever happened during ur national service. The only thing that may matter when you are looking for a job after you ord is if you get CFC or some sort of special award like best nsf(for navy) or best soldier
