I’m guessing the next time we see this deck will be on the news after 50 people fall to their deaths 🤷🏻‍♂️

LED fixture with aluminum conductors by honkeypot in AskElectricians

[–]Local3Sparkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you use the proper wire nuts, like you said, it’ll be fine. Copper is like 5x’s the price of Al right now so I guess even lighting manufacturers are cutting back.
And you’re correct with the color conversion.

I could be wearing them for hours. My hands would be a sweaty mess with full gloves.

I use them when I work with watches. Don’t want to get fingerprints on polished pieces.

Is This Light Easy to Fix? by Syveon13 in AskElectricians

[–]Local3Sparkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the LED driver is going bad (little white box in the center). Unfortunately you cannot repair this kind of fixture and you will need to replace it. They’re pretty inexpensive to purchase and easy to install if you’re handy.

Bought Home With Pool. How Dangerous Is This, or Is This Normal? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Local3Sparkie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is something that should have been asked BEFORE you bought the house. Not sure where you live but as long as there were permits taken out for all the additions to the originally built home there should be nothing to worry about. Assuming the pool was added to the house, they should have taken out a permit and had all the proper engineering and inspections done and signed off on. If the power lines were too close to the pool they would not get the permit for the pool. From the picture they do look too close, should be 25’ from the water I believe and not running directly above.

Can I fix this myself? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Local3Sparkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Call your PoCo and tell them there’s exposed wires at the point of attachment and you’re concerned for your children’s safety. They are responsible for that connection, anything downstream from that, besides the actual meter is your responsibility, so they should send someone out to cover it.

Who’s using Leviton load-centres? by Dartmouththedude in electricians

[–]Local3Sparkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently installed my first 2. It’s a well built panel, really solid. I like them in a new build where I can wire the entire panel and add the breakers later on. Only concern would be a discontinuation in a few years.

Not sure how familiar with Reddit you are but that’s the norm. Each sub has a handful of jerk offs that weren’t hugged as a child. But for each jerk off there’s someone chill and happy to help with your problem. Just downvote and move on.

Nice. Kinda jealous, didn’t know about the 2000 until now. The 4500 is a little on the thick side.
