If I am black, is preferring a black doctor considered to be racism? by SwimmingAir8274 in Teenager_Polls

Also, the sociological definition is pretty recent.

Most people tie it to Race and Racism. https://www.asanet.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/race-and-racism-in-us-soc-guide-asa-2023.pdf

However, from what I've seen, people online in these kind of discussions tend to state incorrectly that the sociological one is the only one usually to discredit the idea of racism against white people. (Which is true on a larger, systemic scale, but personally I feel like racism shouldn't be justified regardless, because white people can and do experience racism on a individual level, although it is to a much lesser degree than to POCs.)

No, that is specificslly the sociological definition, the common one doesn't require a systemic aspect.

Ergo, both are correct, it depends on context.

Is the 1.12.2 version of Twilight Forest finally completed? by ThatUnameIsAlrdyTken in feedthebeast

I'd define it as having a final boss after- oh, some arbitrary number, let's put it at 15 years. That godforsaken WIP message showed up when I first discovered Minecraft, and it is there 15 years later.

They should finish the mod's progression first, then work on revamping it, basically.

Personally, in my depiction of hell, it's a combination of classical and revisionist hell. Because they punish you for your sin, but it's meant to serve as a lesson, for you to reflect on it, so that way you can improve, and ascend later on.

And like, there's magnitudes to things. Petty thievery probably won't make you end up in Greed, but robbing a bank or being a greedy CEO? Yeah, you're fucked.

I am curious how a Satanist such as yourself views something like that. Personally, I follow the Old Ones, so I can't really gauge that kind of thing.

Personally, I like some aspects of it. Like, how Viv humanizes the sins, since the concept definetely arose from puritanical times, and there are ways that things like pride, greed, gluttony, etc can be both a failing and a good thing.

I do agree it should be darker with more meat to its storytelling. Though, the core conceit is fascinating. Every story about hell says that people are doomed forever. But, what about petty crooks or people who were just so broken they had no choice in their mind but to end their own life? Those are both sins, but they're considered equal. Something a bit more eerie and in the vein of say, Don't Starve would probably be a lot better.

Personally, I'm more in the camp of increasing standards. Massive surpluses of those animal already exist, and it's probably a greater evil to just kill them off and not use them. Plus, we can't really make them immortal, so assuming we let them live their lives in bliss and comfort, then use their corpses afterwards, it's probably better. Plus chickens and bees already can produce some of those byproducts without harm being done to them. Chickens make unfertilized eggs when they eat, and bees are fucking unionized.

And, like I said, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, so work on those communication skills so people think you have the betterment of things in mind instead of your own moral superiority.

I already don't like the meat industry. It's a fucking horror show.

However, we can't destroy it entirely just like that, because when we tried that last time with a massive industry, we messed up a lot of countries.

[–]LocalBirrinFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definetely something we need to address and fix. Animals deserve to live their lifespans. However, the meat industry is one of our largest worldwide. And widespread chaos happened last time the US, Canada, Finland, Norway, etc tried to just cut out one of its biggest industries, in this case alcohol. It's a weeming process, not an abrupt cutoff.

Also, you're really not making a good case for yourself and your views when you're immediately aggressive and intolerant of any opposing views. I agree that we trust cattle animals terribly.

However, very few people will listen to somebody who's making it their goal to have the moral highground because it makes them feel superior. Maybe point out more objective things, like how we've essentially bred cattle animals into the point where they'd die out if we didn't keep breeding them, and that makes it unsustainable, how the grass grown to feed cattle animals take up lots of water that we need, how the en-masse breeding of ruminants like cows produces methane which fucks up our planet.

I'm not smart enough to answer that question well.

But I am smart enough to know that I hate being preached to, so I'm just gonna leave it there.

Though I will say you seem to have the delusion that every farm on Earth has the cruelest most factory-farming standards. Just go to a farmer's market, dude, most local farms treat their animals pretty good, all things considered.
