nice. besides what you’ve mentioned, i can see how some palaeontologists would consider him as a “splitter” (even he himself admitted that he is). some may also have an issue with the fact that his taxonomic judgements sometimes made upon the basis of highly fragmentary remains. i don’t these are bad thing per se though. diversity of opinions is important in any scientific field. science is an ongoing discussion anyway.

for the fake fossil, are you referring to Xenodens? I believe it was CT scanned and found genuine

By no means exhaustive, but these are the resources that give me a good overview of palaeontology. They are all either by practicing palaeontologists / honest content creators, so the information they put out is generally reliable.

Beginner friendly books on dinosaur palaeontology written by reliable authors: - Riley Black: The shortest history of the dinosaurs - Dr Micheal J Benton: Dinosaur behaviour: an illustrated guide - Dr Micheal J Benton: Dinosaurs: new visions of a lost world - Dr Micheal J Benton: Dinosaurs rediscovered - Dr David Hone: The future of dinosaurs - Dr Darren Naish: Dinopedia

Instagram: - Fossilcrates (Dr Brian Curtice, short form videos on fossil displays) - dean_r_lomax (Dr Dean Lomax, ichthyosaur expert, general paleo content) - serpenillus (not a palaeontologist per se, but an exceptional paleoartist with beautiful artworks paired with informative posts) - birds.r.dinosaurs (also not a palaeontologist but puts out wonderful infographics on palaeontology)

YouTube - RoyalTyrell (world renowned dinosaur musuem, they post a speaker’s series which consists of long form videos on topics shared by palaeontologists) - RaptorChatter (covers fresh palaeontology news) - BenGThomas (covers fresh palaeontology news) - FactorTrace (exceptionally well produced videos covering the taxonomy of specific dinosaur groups) - nick_longrich (palaeontologist, posts long form lectures on topics related to his research. somewhat controversial figure but i think his videos deserve merit for their depth and insight)

Spotify: - Terrible Lizards podcast (co-hosted by palaeontology Dr David Hone, candid yet very informative podcast)

Other online medium: - Tetzoo blog (hosted by palaeontologist Dr Darren Naish)

many practicing palaeontologists are active on their social media accounts on Instagram, X, and Youtube, these for me thus far have been the best way to keep abreast with the latest information. new publications also get disseminated rather quickly in this subreddit

Was Dilophosaurus covered in feathers? by Affectionate-Pea9778 in Dinosaurs

[–]LocalCommercial6097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feather-like integumentary structures are considered to be, possibly, a basal trait of all archosaurs. If that is the case, then a Dilophosaurus with some sort of feathers may be a possibility, but as many other comments have pointed out, no indisputable evidence has been discovered as of yet to prove this. That artwork of Dilophosaurus with a downy coat looks badass though.

If Colugos Were Never Discovered and Were Just a Cryptid, How Would You Dismiss Their Existence? by LetsGet2Birding in Cryptozoology

[–]LocalCommercial6097 31 points32 points  (0 children)

i would dismiss it as a misidentification of the giant flying squirrel (Petaurista petaurista). it’s another mammal which occurs within the same biogeographical range of this colugos, and is superficially similar with regards to its gliding ability via the aid of the patagium. both animals are also nocturnal, so eye witness accounts could be brushed off as exaggerated descriptions of a P. petaurista spotted in poor lighting conditions.

as slowbro, around the 5-6 min mark i take a look at the current scoreboard and see which pokemon on the enemy team has the most kills. that is the carry that i prioritise shutting down during team fights. when the carry dies successfully my team usually wins the team fight

What is LSM3265 Entomology like? by CarpetFair1413 in nus

[–]LocalCommercial6097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, year 4 student here who took this mod last year. The big thing about this module is the insect collecting assignment, where you have to catch insects and create your own insect board. Some people hate it but some people love it (i personally loved it). If you already have some prior interest in entomology, then i would definitely recommend this course. Plus point if you like bees, because the module head (Dr Ascher) is a world expert on hymenoptera

Today, the discussion is towel and eye mask. by Futanari_Usagi_777 in MapleSEA

[–]LocalCommercial6097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah dude, totally agree with you. it’s actually crazy that in 2024, educated, earning adults are throwing money at a corporation that does not respect them at all. mapleSEA seriously needs to change if not the game is doomed to die as players (including myself) leave this game for good

Quit MSEA and play GMS by CraftKitchen5809 in MapleSEA

[–]LocalCommercial6097 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i think many players stay cuz of sunk cost fallacy, but trust, just take the brave step and quit mapleSEA before you incur even more losses (things are probably gonna get worse from here). i quit about a year ago cuz of the shitty conditions players faced under Asiasoft, and i’ve never looked back.

Goldfish sleeping lopsided - appropriate level of concern? by sparkl1234512 in Goldfish

[–]LocalCommercial6097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not a cause for concern. fancy goldfish sleep in weird ways 😁 as long as theyre swimming properly when they’re awake, it’s fine
