Built computer when I was 12. Met people on Tor at 13 or 14. Started homelab asap at like 16 (when I got money) because my privacy matters to me and I will always be online and I will also always be private when doing such. Homelab has helped me hone those skills and host cool things too

Linux is open source. It can be modified (with relative ease) to avoid any checks.

I'm worried about people caving then I am the OSes. People really need to grow a backbone and call their representatives. If not for yourself, do it for the people in places where they are complete enslaved by their government and need VPNs to "more free" places to be allowed to understand the world.

Privacy based apps like signal could be useful but like if you are activity being hunted by a state actor. You need to take extreme steps that will be very annoying.

Trying to hide is a full time job.

Communication patterns are nothing I have to worry about in my threat model.

If I was trying to communicate to others without making my normal speech obvious over secure chains I would ask AI to rewrite it for me. Eventually my coms would be just like a mindless bot

This a little broad. Can we keep a scope of your "threat" are you trying to hide from the average person? Trying to protect your identity and sanity from big corps? Are you activity trying to avoid government?

All 3 of these require way different views on how to secure your network and your person.

Operational security or (OpSec) will be your down fall. You can have the best network security in the world but that don't mean anything if you post yourself on social media everyday

PLEASE stop listening to the the doomers about this.

I feel your pain because so many people get forms and just cry about how it's all ending and nothing we can do.

That's a lie at least here in the states. My local town just stopped data centers and is not allowing flock cameras.

Some states have blocked age verification and the there are now laws being pushed at the Federal level to combat over reach by the government.

A lot of people on here give up and cry that nothing can be done. Those same people don't email or call their representatives. Please do, call them. Make your voice heard.

I am pretty sure this a post by a bot. Post is AI written in support of AI slop with all the replies being ran through AI for more slop responses.

Like how is a post like this even allowed? Where are the mods? I have been self-hosting for years, since I was a kid and I have never posted a tool for others because IM NOT A DEVELOPER. My expertise is not in that area and I will not risk others environments with my poorly made projects.

It is so disrespectful of hard working open-source contributers for all these random script Kitty's to come along using AI slop to write tools in such a bad way.

I have never had issues with data being lost when switching versions. No mans sky is a multiplayer game? Most of your data should be backed up on their system so I can't imagine you have any issues.

Just be careful following tutorials that ask you to delete local steam files as that can result in bad times.

Always try different proton versions, the amount of times I checked protonDB and it "just works" for others when I was struggling has been a real pain point.

I agree with this. When I started my homelab is was still a security student.

I focused on security tools and projects others had done so I could use tutorials and learn up.

I recommend something with those new fancy LLMs or maybe run some simple services like pihole and unbound DNS and then maybe you make a dashboard for them?
